Hello All -

We have had a springer spaniel for exaclty one year and she is great. Except for being excited when getting to play outside or when we get home, she is usually very calm and sleeps most of the time (upside down usually).

Recently, when going outside, she has found and been playing with a rock about the size of an adult's fist. When going outside, she runs to it and barks at it as well as carries it around. Earlier tonight, my wife decided to let her carry it inside to the room we watch TV in.

While sitting beside her, my wife tried to pick up the rock and for the first time ever, we heard her growl and somewhat snap. As she is so calm and happy all the time, this was very abnormal. She will leave the rock and go walk around, but is extremely protective of it when it's in her sight - kindof like her puppy (even though she's never had a litter and is fixed)

Is this behavior a cause to be concerned? - Please leave any comments - Thanks!

I think that's pretty normal, still she has those hormones of motherhood that is supposed to be overwhelming when she is not fixed and is pregnant. Sometime soon it will diffuse of her..

probably he she considers the rock as hi toy and she doesn't like anyone touching it.
