Hi everyone; just wanted to introduce myself. I will be bringing home two 12 week old Shih Tzu pups in a couple of weeks, 1 male and 1 female. I am sure I will be needing plenty of advice in the future.
Everything I have read on the net about raising two pups from the same litter are not very encouraging so I am hoping for the best as I love dogs and really want to raise two wonderful pups.
From everything I have read, it seems that the most important thing is to individualize them from the start and I'm wondering if some of you might share your ideas.

Thanks for any advice!

hi and welcome.

i've never had 2 pups from the same litter or even 2 pups at the same time. there are a lot of pit falls into having 2 especially from the same litter. any responsible breeder would not sell 2 pups to you or anyone else.

as they get older there may be issues where the one pup will fight to be come top dog, and once they start fighting they will allways be having ago. this could result in a serioulsy hurt dog or worse.

then there is the training, each dog will need individual training time, walking time etc. this is a lot to commit to, it's hard enough with one puppy.

i know you love the puppies, but if i was you i would be asking the breeder if she would take one back and concentrate on one puppy and then in about 18months - 2years think about another then, once the other is settled and trained.

good luck what ever you decide to do, it won't be easy what ever you do.

That was very exciting for you, congratulations! Don't forget to take some pics when they arrive and share them to us here. Do you have any experience with dogs before and are they came from the same place? Having two dogs double the fun but it's double duty and responsibility.
