Cool Beautiful!

Those dogs are all beautiful and what a great picture! How did you get all 8 of them to sit for the pic. so nice? You must have them well trained! Do you raise dogs too? I know you said you just rescued 2 more. You must live in the country? Curious to know their names!

Sorry for not having much to say about the cats--I am not much for cats, lol, only when they are kittens. But glad you rescued them!

Love to see more pics. when you have them. I should of checked your profile page to see if you put in an album--I have an album on my profile page if you would like to see my 2 'boys'

Are they all really yours? They are so cute paps, it's amazing how you make them stay sitting there for a group pic. We could love to see and hear more about them, and oh your cats are cuties too. Welcome to ILD.

You have a real talent for photography. Every time I try and take pictures of my brood, the little demons move and I either get a fuzzy picture or the wrong end of the dog altogether!

My dogs will sit like this for hours provided there is no distraction, ie someone coming to stroke them, or if they see another dog passing. then it's mayhem. I trained them to sit all together because I get lots of requests for picture from people in the street. I do take out all of them for a walk at the same time. no problem at all. You should see people's reaction!!!!!!!!!!! It varies from the totally stunned to the very revering. People think I am a saint. lololololol

And when I go to Covent Garden, yes with all of them, Japanes tourists give me money for allowing them to take pictures. It makes me laugh because I never ask for money. If it put a smile on people's face then i am happy. However this christmas I have decided to put my dogs to good use and raise money for rescues. So I am asking for a pound donation if people want a picture. Do you think it's wrong?

Cute dogs you have there. It's a big challenge to let them sit still in the bench while you took the picture. Great job!
You really have a warm heart for animals. You have lots of pets already but you were able to adopt two more. May God bless you.

Story of my life.

It all started when a friend bought two little papillon dogs Max and Candy, for her children. At that time I wasn't really over keen on dogs but thought these two were so cute. My firend and I used to meet every morning at the school gate, and once our kids were safely in school we used to go to the park with the dogs. 6 months down the line my daughter started to clamour she wanted a dog too. She loved those paps and was pestering for a dog. Meanwhile little Candy who was barely a year old had to be put to sleep due to severe internal injuries. We were stunned. It happened so fast.
It was summer and all our children were in summer camp in France. My friend was worried the children would be heartbroken at the bad news so we went back to the breeder and she acquired a little dog called Roxy. Roxy had never been out of her cage and didn't know how to walk. She wanted to be carried on the arms all the times. She was also older that my friend was led to believe but I was happy she saved her from her cage. That year the breeder rang my friend about a little dog they wanted to sell as it didn't have the right marking for showing. So she got this one too. Soon the whole family got bored of the dogs. Although living litterally across the road from the park no one wanted to make the effort to take the dogs there, so they had no training and the house was always full of poo and wee.
the dogs were left on their own for up to 18 hours a day as everyone was busy.
I also began to notice that whenever my friend's second son entered the room, the dogs immediately fled under the bed. I didn't have much experience with dogs so thought it was "normal". I wish I knew then what I know now.

A few weeks later my friend spotted two papillon for sale, in a market and I bought them immediately. I can't explain the feeling that overwhelmed me when I took them home. There were two 8 weeks old puppies who will depend on me for the rest of their life. I just hope i would be able to care for them. My daughter 's reaction was incredible. From the initial enthusiasm she became very jealous because the dogs became attached to me, since they were staying with me all day. She started to resent them and it came to a point that I never left them alone with her. You can imagine the tantrums when told she wasn't allowed to touch them. I know I was wrong and I should have taught how to care for them. I learnt my lesson.

Back at my friend's house, little Max went to the vet for a broken leg. Again no one knew how it happened. Poor Max. He was one month in a plaster and never complaining.

Continue next post.

Continued.................................

Brave little Max. What he endured would make you weep.
Since the dogs were left in the kitchen for long periods and her children never took them out, I suggested she brings them round to play with mine and I would take them to the park. She would collect them in the evening. It was working very well for a while, until for some reason her children thought that I wanted to keep their dogs and didn't let their mum bring the dogs over. Poor mites. those long hours barking for someone to come.!!!!!!!!!!And no one came.
After they were gone I noticed my little bitch started to put on weight. As my boy had been neutered it could only mean one of her dog was responsible. and he was. She never neutered/spayed her dogs. thus I was left with two puppies which I kept and raised with my dogs. They were so adorable that despite being offered a tidy sum of money I refused to sell. I don't like making money out of animals.

One day I went to visit my firend's announced. when I got there, her second son was dangling Max over the balcony pretending to let him fall. Max was terrified. His little legs were moving frantically, trying to escape this mad boy. He was yelling and crying from fear. I stood there speechless. My heart felt cold and I thought I was having a nightmare. I didn't want to shout in case the boy got frightened and drop Max. For a moment I felt helpless. The boy hadn't seen me. so I rang the bell and thank god he answered the door with the dog in his arms.
I was overcome by conflicting emotions. Part of me wanted to throttle him and part of me was trying to understand this pure sadism of torturing a helpless animal.
My friend wasn't in. So I took all the dogs and pretended to go to the park. The boy didn't say anything. Like a mad woman I drove fast back to my house and once in security I started to breathe. It suddenly all clicked. The dogs running under the bed, Candy dying from internal injuries, and Max's broken leg. It was all the boy;s fault. When no one was looking he was simply torturing the dogs. For two days I cried for the horrible life they must have endured. This time I decided I wasn't giving them back.
Incredibly my friend didn't believe her son was mistreating the dogs. Reluctantly I had to return them with a warning that I will contact the RSPCA if I sus[ect any more cruelty.

3 days later my friend called saying little Roxy had a pup. It came as a surprise as none of us was aware she was expecting because she wasn't showing much being such a tiny dog. I immediately drove to her house, and as soon as I opened the door, little Roxy, her pup in her mouth jumped into my arms. Normally a dog wouldn't let you touch her pups but it seemed like Roxy was desperate and she knew she could be safe with me. It was her way of saying please protect me nd my baby. I felt honoured that this tiny dog was putting her confidence in me. Without much ado, I wrapped her and her son Tiger in a blanket, put the other dogs on the lead and took them all to my house. They never went back to their previous home.

And thus I became the proud owner of 8 papillon dogs.
Would you like to hear more of them?

sorry if long posts.

thank you for reading.

Wow! That is a heartbreaking story. I can't even imagine what those dogs must have endured at the hands of that little sadist! Bless you for taking them in and offering them a safe and loving home.

Once i had all the dogs safely in my house, the long process of rehabiliting them began. First I had to deal with their toilet training. The amount of poo bags and toilet papers and bleach and water I used would be enough to fill a swimming pool. There wasn't an area where they hadn't made their mark. Then my dogs joined in the fun thinking pooing and weeing in the house was ok. GRRRRR.
I never raised my voice though because I knew they would go into hiding and do their business somewhere I wouldn't see. It took me almost a year to train them and retrain my dogs to go to the garden.
Little Max was terrified of his own shadow. Mealtime he would grab his food and go under the sofa to eat. Then he would vomit his food at the mere mention of his name. His previous owner, the sadistic boy, who was 11 years old at the time, used to hit him at mealtimes. Somehow Max could never do right in his eyes. With a metal plate inserted in his broken leg he would find it difficult to pick up his food which made the boy laugh or give him a beating according to his mood. todate Max has still a hairline fracture on his neck which can't be operated on.

Little Roxy was different. although smaller she learnt to scream in a high pitched voice anytime the boy came near her. Eventually he left her alone. I think he was slightly afraid of her. As to Kippi he took everything in his stride. He learnt from an early age not to make noise or else he would receive a beating. He made himself invisible.

In the park Max would never join the other dogs. He walked between my legs and if sat down he would lie behind the bench and wait patiently. I was told to ignore him and that he will come round in his own time. He did but it took him 3 years to trust me. Even today when I put his collar on he squeals with fear. I just hope that he doesn't remember the past.

As to Roxy she simply refused to walk and everytime I put her down she wanted to be back in my arms. It took almost a year to make her walk on the lead. Kippi was too young to remember all this. thank god. He didn't have too many issues.

When I took Roxy she came with her pup Tiger. Never in my life had I seen such a small puppy. He was 4 inches long and weighed 20 grammes. First I thought he has no legs or paws. He looked like a sausage and could fit in the palm of my hand.
I was afraid she might reject her pup as he had been handled by humans.
When she arrived I put her in a basket with soft blankets and put the pup next to her and left them alone to bond. I was glad Roxy hadn't rejected her pup and was feeding him.
that afternoon Roxy began to act strangely. she would come to my room and when I tried to lift her she would run down the stairs then come up again. She did that a few times until the penny dropped. She wanted me to follow her.
I began to sweat thinking she killed her pup and wanted to show me. I raced to the office and looked in the basket but couldn't see the pup. Oh my god she had eaten it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Suddenly the blanket began to twitch. I lifted it and there was the pup neatly tucked in. Before she came upstairs Roxy made sure her pup was safe and with her mouth pulled the blanket over his body. My eyes welled up. She was such a good mum despite everything.

I stood over the basket for a few minutes not knowing what Roxy wanted me to do. Then amazingly she jumped into the basket, rolled on her back and opened her paws and waited. The pup was trying to crawl towards her but couldn't find his way. It suddenly dawned on me that Roxy wanted me to put the pup on her belly for him to suckle. I lifted the pup up and put him next to a nipple. He latched onto it like a pirahna and began to suckle making the weirdest noises. I constantly had to put him back on the nipple as he seemed to have problems.

To continue

I constantly had to put him back on the nipple as he seemed to have problems.

To continue
Over the next two days it became a ritual. Roxy would come and see me every 3 hours to put the pup on her belly to feed. I began to get worried. something wasn't quite right. So I took mother and pu to the vet.
After observing Roxy with her pup, Roxy was showing no interest and the pup couldn't suckle, the vet concluded the pup was brain damaged and I was advised to put it to sleep. I have never seen or know a brain damaged dog. I decided to trust my gut instinct and refused to have the pup to sleep. So what if he was brain damaged? I wouldn't love him any less.
and thus began two weeks of sleepless nights as I fed the pup by hand every three hours. Roxy wouldn't let me forget. She would sit next to me watching me feed her baby. I always made sure I sat on the floor at her level when feeding the pup. So that she knew what was going on. It was lovely sitting with Roxy in the dining room, just her and me and the baby.

Two weeks later, dog tired of getting up every 3 hours I had a brilliant idea. since my other dog Miski has also had puppies at the same time, I put Tiger in her crate. He took to her and she accepted him as one of her own. Miski, being a bigger dog, had longer nipples and Tiger seemed to feed better. It was a total success.
Roxy would sit by the crate and watch her baby being fed by another bitch. I wondered if she was aware of all this and whether it affected her. She would stare at her pup feeding without moving for long period. the pup was thriving.
Then one morning as the pup was feeding Roxy became agitated. she made little noises and tried to enter the crate. Miski just shooed her off with a growl. As far as she was concerned it was her baby. I looked at Roxy and began to think the unthinkable. Would it be remotely possible that after all this time roxy would want her baby back?

And back she wanted it. Desperately. she began to run around the crate and mustering up courage she entered the crate and got bitten by Miski. I have never known a dog to behave like that. A battle of will ensued as I had to distract Miski from the pup. Finally I managed to get Miski out of the crate, took the pup and Roxy just shot out to the office and jumped in the basket waiting for her pup.
Tiger had grown and became stronger. He could feed much better and although I kept a close eye I didn't need to intevene so much. Mother and baby were well and safe.

When Tiger was a year old, I noticed he was sneezing after every meal, sometimes for up 20 minutes. One day he sneezed so much that he passed out. After lots of tests, and Xrays the vet discovered that tiger was born with a cleft palate. That's why he couldn't suckle. The food would go up to his nose rather than to his stomach. Tiger had reconstructive surgery 4 years ago and it was a great success although a tad pricey. but who cares? Today Tiger is a handsome dog, extremely intelligent who loves to play with his ball.

I just shudder everytime I remember I was advised to put him to sleep because he was misdiagnosed as being brain damaged.
