Hi There!
Hello, my name is Marie and I am a 19 year old artisan from Berlin, Germany who is currently living and working in the United States with her husband and two dogs; a German Rottweiler named Pueppie who accompanies me on all my travels, and a white miniature Poodle named Izzy.
I create one of a kind leather dog collars and I am just starting to spread the word about this little enterpreneurial venture I am making.
I am hoping to connect with fellow dog lovers and animal enthusiasts to talk about their experiences with collars, suggestions, constructive criticism and all things dog related.
I am a 'collar fanatic' and I put the love and passion I have for the species dog into the leather collars I create.
Thank you admins and forum members for providing such a positive platform to share and connect.
I hope to hear from you.
Best Wishes,
Marie

Hello and welcome to the forum. I've never used leather collars on my dogs. Trying to do up buckles with two squirming JRT's and an impatient Border Collie would be beyond hellish! I've seen some absolutely beautiful handmade collars at various dog shows and events but, the buckles always convince me not to buy them.
I also like the nylon collars and leashes because they are washable and they can get pretty grungy looking after a while!
Looking forward to seeing some of your stuff.

Thanks for quick reply!!
...And thanks a lot for your input!
I am currently also working on getting the hardware for martingale style collars or 'slip on' collars for ease of use.
Just to provide an alternative to the buckle.
Thanks again, good to know!!

Welcome to the forum!
Just looked at your album and your site on the net. You have a couple nice looking dogs! Esp. like the one with the 'kissees' and the 'budding writer/scholar' one too. You also make beautiful collars but I never use them except when my dogs are going to the vet, etc. I am afraid to leave them on permanently. It all started when I read of dogs hanging themselves and at the time my dogs had access to a doggie door that had a ramp going to the back yard. I would be at work and gone for about 10 hrs. and I got to worrying and kept picturing coming home to a hung dog! So I just took them off and have kept them off even though I am retired now and home most of the time---They are use to the 'bare' neck now and this accident could happen anytime and I may not know it till it was too late.
Hey, could you make them so they would break apart if they started to get hung up on something? Guess there is something on the market on this order. Yours are very nice looking though.

Hey thanks alot !!
There's a nice idea ... I know they use velcro on on some horse halters that will slide open at high pressure.
I could make a little light wire hook for a closure that bends open easily, but then you couldn't walk them on it of course. It would be just to look
I think I am going to open a thread and ask all of you forum members what you look for in a collar and why you use them and why not.
That's very interesting for me to learn!
Thanks for your opinion and input!! I appreciate it!
All the best.

Is there a way you could have it both ways--like make it so it would be interchangeable--like switch to the 'stronger' secure way when you need it for walking, etc and use the light 'break-away' for safety when they are just in the back yard, etc? Not very good at explaining this I know--hope you 'get' what I'm trying to say. It probably can't be done but if it could I would think you would have a unique collar design. (lol, unless it has already been done?)
