Hello, and a bit about me.
Hi All, I am new to this forum. A little about me..I have three dogs and a foster dog. I am a coordinator for fundraisers and community outreach for our local rescue shelter. I help find lost pets as a hobby and I do a small amount of basic training and I am a pet sitter. I am a bit anal about spaying and neutering and am a strong voice against puppy mills and back yard breeders, I write to all political heads in many states but especially my own. My goal in life is to make life better one dog at a time! I have been involved with dogs especially for about 35 years. (That tells my age)!

You sound like my kind of person! I especially like the statement--"My goal in life is to make life better one dog at a time!" Might I ask what do you usually write to political heads about? (besides to do with puppy mills and back yard breeders) Perhaps about Rabies vaccinations for one thing? I'm sure you have heard of Kris Christine. She is a member here and prob. a member in a lot of other dog forums as she is involved in getting the laws changed on how often Rabies shots are given, etc. She is Founder, Co-Trustee of The Rabies Challenge Fund.
What are the names, breeds, and ages of your 4 dogs? Have any pics to share? I just had to put down my Corky about 3 weeks ago because of heart disease/failure and complications. He was 12 yrs. old and a cocker/golden retriever mix. I still have Max-a 11 yr old cocker. You can see their pics. in my album that is on my profile page if you like.
Hope you like this forum--my 2nd home. Hope to see you around.
I think my blood pressure rises everytime I hear someone say, "It's just a dog." That statement just drives me up a wall.

Corky/Max
I am sorry to hear of your recent loss. I understand first hand that type of pain.
On my crew, I have Chelsea Marie, a red nose Pit Mix who in the year I have had her has been an angel close to my heart.I Adopted her after she was abandoned, pregnant, 9 months old captured recovered then sheltered until almost two. And my husband said "that dog needs you" and I said "I cannot handle that dog!" Chelsea hangs on my every word and movement, is the sweetest girl.
Buddy, OH MY Buddy was abused and abandoned, he is a hound of some sorts, he had issues galore, 3 weeks into having him with never a tail wag or lick I decided not to crate him at night anymore. He apparently jumped in bed with us and when I moved he went on the attack thinking I was going to hurt him, Chelsea Marie threw her body over mine and took the small bites until my husband could calm and remove Buddy! I was thinking send him packing on the end of my shoe (JUST JOKING) I was wondering what to do next really, I thought ,I took advice, and opinions and started working really hard! 8 months still a work in progress, but now would not bite me or anyone else, obeys commands sleeps with us, does not attack others when eating, has some small things left but wags, licks and lets us rub his belly! We can take our shoes off without threat of upsetting the apple cart!I am glad I kept working with him.Very affectionate and sweet dog.
"CC" ah the oldest of ours and the smallest, Cee is a mix of poodle, My son came walking up our drive one day 5 years ago, he was carrying his coat awfully funny, when I said "What is in your coat?" He said nothing after repeat he said "MOM listen this little one was being sent to a kill shelter" Can we just keep her and find her a real home?" He unfolded a bundle of fur who weighed about 2 lbs! he had seen a lady leaving them at a park and told her it was illegal and some folks stepped in and took the male puppy so my son took the female. CC is the cutest and sweetest does so many tricks and is so smart she reacts like a person would. We had many offers of homes but we had already fallen in love! She was apparently a back yard breeder of designer types who didn't get them all sold! No amount of money could buy CC or any of them for that matter!
Cody, An Australian shepherd was saved from being euthanized when my Foster son was stationed in Hawaii and about to come home , he checked some web sights and saw Cody, Cody was marked as Urgent, John flew home after making arrangements, Picked up Cody and then unexpectedly was sent away again, he gave up his new place and asked if I would keep Cody and if he could move back in with us on weekends and holidays, that was two years ago, John comes in many weekends and Cody waits patiently he adores John! John is now going to be a dad and has bought a home a few miles away. Cody is gentle and loves kids, I understand he is having a new sister who will arrive in Oct! (She will be named after me, what an honor)! And Cody no doubt will be a great fur brother!
My current work in progress is a blind shih tzu, I want to adopt her but want to first see if she can get a better home than what I can give her with my crew. AT times the larger ones can get a bit rowdy and playful.
My son who now lives behind us has rescued and adopted two Pit Bulls they come to Grandmas pretty much daily, Little Willow full grown weighed just over 8 lbs and could not stand, had most all hair gone and the vet said he didnt hold out much hope for her..She weighs 30 now her full weight, and gives Gram a kiss every chance she gets! It took over 7 months for her recovery a lick of food then a tsp at a time. Then rebuilding some muscle mass and training. She adores my son!
Bently..he is the cutest! Bently came from a rescue he was tossed from a car a little broken and scared and was about to be euthanized when a Pit Rescue stepped in to save him, he is now almost a year old, he just plods along loves everything cats, dogs, humans, car rides! What a boy and now since he has seen Willow give Gram kisses he refuses to be left out, I get slurpped by that big head and large tongue! And all 50 lbs of him has to sit on my lap!
Those are my angels and my grand angels! Every one saved adopted and all one big family!

Thank you for taking the time to tell your heart-warming story on your beautiful dogs. I really enjoyed it. They are lucky dogs to have you in their life.

Wow those are some amazing dog stories... I agree that people looking for a good companion animal should check out their local shelters. There are so many wonderful dogs looking for second chances.
If you ever need help spotlighting any of your adoptable foster dogs let me know. I manage a online dog boutique, but I was adamant that we needed to include space on our site to help shelter dogs find new homes. I post a picture and a short write up about the animal that includes the contact information for adoption. Right now we help out two local organizations: Utah Humane Society and the SLCo Pit Crew that works to get Pit Bulls socialized and adopted to loving homes. What you’re doing is wonderful!
