I need help
Hi everyone, I am a newbie, but need some help and fast! We have a pitbull puppy, 8 months old, and today we got a 9 month old mutt. Both males. The new dog came from a home with 4 children and I was told that he was fine around them, but he is so skittish around my husband I am really nervous right now. He keeps growling at my husband and acting like he had been abused by a male. We tried to let the two dogs meet and the new dog was acting more like a pit than my pit was! Is there something we can do to help them get along better? I don't want to call the pound but I cannot have dogs fighting in my home with a toddler around.

As hard as it may be --- try walking them together....it will be difficult at first but eventually it will help with their aggression I think.

i would start with just getting ur dog to trust ur hubby.. so several rounds of him sitting on the floor with ur dogs favorite treat that way the dog associates ur hubby with cookies. Do this several times a day. This may sound dum, but make sure ur hubby isnt wearing a hat that can scare dogs.
Another thing is have ur hubby feed ur dogs dinner... hand feeding the aggressive one would be a good way to start.
Finally i would have ur hubby walk the dogs together.
*** Find an obedience class in ur area that u, ur hubby and the dogs can take together... its a great bonding experience.. Good Luck!

Well unfortunatley the situation got worse this morning, the new dog bit me and we are currently awaiting animal control to come and get him. I will not have this kind of dog around my young son.

Dear....sorry to hear that this new dog didn't fit in! I know its hard to let them go, but it seems like you have your priorities (your son) in the right place. Hopefully you'll find another dog that will mesh with everyone

As hard as it is, I think you've made the right decision. When there is a small child in the home, you simply cannot take the risk that the dog may injure the child.

What if your dog just likes to sit on your kids? How do you make them stop?
