He is so sweet, like a little bear. How old will he be when you bring him home?

Is he your first dog? I don't know much about GSD's although I do think they are beautiful and I would love to own one one day.

What sort of name are you looking for? Do you want something that is local to you? Have you got a river or somewhere nearby that you could name him after? What about a character from a favourite film or tv show? My dog is named after the mammoth in the Ice Age movies and it is also the name of the lead character in a favourite tv show of ours. My husband and I thought of the name at the same time - he was thinking of the mammoth, I was thinking of the guy on tv!

Well, the best time to pick him up is at 12 weeks old so he can learn important dog manners from his mother. Maybe you can name him Berlin, since he is a German Shepherd. Or Panzer would be another great name.

Red face

I must say he is gorgeous!!! Heres are a few names I think will suit his breed:

Berlin: Capital of Germany, once split into Communist and Free zones, it is today a unified city. This is a pleasant male German Shepherd name your dog will love.

Blitz: This German term means “lightning”. When you canine companion wants to move quickly, he can really be as fast as lightning and just as agile.

Murry: Meaning 'lord' and 'master' as your new friend is likely to be a bold and a natural leader.

Just a few suggestions but obviously you choose a name that is meaningful and cherished by you and your family.

Smile Welcome to the forum!

You asked for tips so I am giving you a link to a thread I did a while back on this breed and the difficulty they may have with digesting their food for proper nutrition.--> http://www.i-love-dogs.com/forums/69816-post.htmlBe sure to click on the link also that is in that post--and make sure to read all the way down as the most important paragraph is near the bottom.

That puppy is adorable, never underestimate a GSD they are full of surprises. My family once had one and his name was Zeus, he was a handful at times but very loyal.

Panzer? Tank right? Sounds like a cool name for a German Shepard. I might steal this in the farrrr future if I ever get a German Shepard.

Yes, Panzer is a German tank used mostly during WWII.

Please do not bring home your new puppy until he is at least 8 weeks old. He needs to learn things from his momma first. Without these important dog to dog lessons, you may have behaviour problems later on.
Read up on German Shepherds. They need to be socialized early on. They can become protective of their property, and of their owners. Get a good puppy book and learn how to train your dog.
He's very cute now, but one day will be very big, very strong and have big teeth.
There's lots of info out there to learn, so take the next several weeks and learn all about development and training.
Good luck

thank you...he is sweet i still don't know how old he will be when ill take him home beacause i want him to be enough time with his mom and brotheres i think i will wait till he'll gets to 8,9 weeks...
it's not gonna be my first dog i grew up with dogs i always had a dog and i guess i ran out of ideas for names, but i decided to wait till i have him and i'm sure that the moment i see him i'll know what name to give him,

thank you for the link corky..i just must say that before i get a dog i do all research i can do about a breed and i spended so much time prepering my self and learning what ever i need to know about gsd's beacause i never had one only a mix of gsd and a lab,so any information is very important and helpefull, thanks.

by the way i lattley started watching the dog whisperer and i have to say that ceaser is great and i saw so many things that i was doing wrong with my last dog,i think its very helpefull and you can learn alot from him so for those who didn't watch the show i really think its good for you to take some ideas from him.

Hes very cute, GSDs are a wonderful selection, a good allrounder family companion and guardian.
Dont be tempted like many GSD owners to go down the protective training path, unless you are using fully qualified and experienced trainers. Too many GSD owners I know decide to DIY protection train, and it ends up in disaster. A GSD (most dogs involved in a family in actual fact regardless of breed) will instinctually want to protect their family and home anyway.
They can be reasonably intense as a pup, but are easily trainable if they have an owner that they can respect. All the GSDs we know LOVE agility and do very well in this area.

Smile Sparkling Eyes

Its soo cute and with nice sparkling eyes...
U can keep its name as "Ray","Rocky".
Give him good nutritional food from the start...
Also do meet your vet doctor for all the vaccinations...
