Hi,we're new here
I am the proud mother of 16 "wonderful" dogs. An 8 yr old boxer-boogie,a 6 year old staffordshire-bru,2 5 year old american bulldogs-tyson and diablo,2 4 year old boxer mixes-harley and ace,a 3 year old rednose pit-daisy,3 10 month old pit bull terriers-goof,carusso and diamond,a 2 year old puggle-babo,a 8 month old lab-shorty,a 6 month old shar pei and a 7 week old white, deaf gsd names trouble. Everybody is fixed except for little miss trouble..i'm looking for other people who have experiences like mine and advice. I recently became disabled-physically and mentally-epilepsy due to brain injury. A few of the dogs protect me from one another and now 2 have to be shuffled from 2 others throught the day but t here are always 10 out at a time. Plus my 2 cats...all the animals were rescues and have health or temperment issues i do not trust with other people especially with the breeds. They are all wonderful animals, except for this upset for the last few months with all my seizures...i'm really looking forward to advice from anybody with experience with deaf dogs. All mine are trained with hanals. The pup was tossed out a car at 3 weeks and was terrified of people, still of my husband but is making huge strides....forgive me all for rambling...i will be posting pics. You can see videos of the crew at u tube...under slhotak

Welcome to the forum!
Wow! What a big family! And I know somebody else in here that has even more dogs than that and also has experience with blind dogs--I'm sure he will be able to help you. Just wanted to tell you not to get discouraged if you don't get fast answers---Being the weekend and on top of that all the Christmas shopping that is prob. going on right now, Members may not see your post till beginning/middle of the week. Busy time of the year!

As one who has 34 dogs, with 3 of them blind I can tell you that given time and never redecorating the room the dog or dogs are in ie: moving the furniture and water bowl and doggie bed, they will acclimate very well. Dogs like most animals use all their senses. When they lose one, the others pick up for the loss and become even more in tune. Just allow them the time to adjust. Good luck.

I made a boo boo in my post above!
Sorry, I said blind when I should of said deaf! Misled you too Yogi! But better deaf then blind I guess--although you'd have to be careful and have him/her on a leash when out of an enclosed area/back yard.

Well actually, 2 of the blind ones are deaf and still pick up on floor vibrations to follow. So they do still adjust and do quite well.
