Hello everyone,
My name is Chiara, I'm a married mother to two boys (the human kind, 5 and 11), a part-time teacher, and the proud owner of two young border collie crosses. Revan is an eleven month old BC x Aussie shepherd and Mission is a nine week old BC x "mystery." Revan is male, Mission is female.
We also have two spoiled, elderly, completely antisocial cats. There's not much to say about them. They're completely indifferent to the dogs and generally only make their presence known when there's wet food involved. I sometimes find myself looking all over the house to make sure they're both still alive.
Revan was our family's first canine member, but I grew up with dogs and certainly missed having one (or two) in my life. A dog (or two) was always in the game plan: It was just a matter of timing with my youngest son being of an age where I felt our family was "ready" for a dog (or two!).
Revan, though he purportedly hails from a farm in Northern Ontario, may in fact be the result of some secret military experiment. He is not just smart, he's SCARY smart. He learns so quickly, it's like he's psychic. I take no credit. I was a total novice when it came to training him. He's just that awesome.
And Mission... she's just plain cute. She follows me everywhere and seems to have a very ladylike personality. I'm really enjoying training her. She sits, lies down, stays (for about 15 seconds hehe), and gives her paws. We're coming up on 48 hours with her, here. She's still adjusting, but everyone's already in love with her, including Revan.
What else can I say? After reading a ton of info on training, I'm a clicker/positive reinforcement/gentle correction type. My dogs are not my "kids," but I consider them much more than "just animals." They're very special members of the family.
Also, Zak George is kind of my hero. Unfortunately, Revan is not terribly enthusiastic when it comes to the frisbee. He's a ball dog, through and through. Maybe Mission...
