Default Foster in Toledo, Oh!

I find myself suddenly swamped with pit bulls needing a home, and oddly enough just after rescuing my first pit - a lovely Am Staff named Juno.

She showed up in my yard about 2 months ago in pretty bad shape. Emaciated, injured with bite wounds all over her, and had recently been hit by a car, as we're told.

My boyfriend and I (my name's Jill) run a small, independent rescue/foster home for stray and abandoned cats, but if a dog shows up like Juno did we extend that cat rescue to "plus dog".

I'm more of a dog person that a cat person, though I guess I'm really just an animal lover. Toledo, Ohio has a huge stray cat population, we're drowning in the kitties. But in the future I'd like to foster more dogs. I've always said, cats may be easier overall, but dogs are easier to train and better behaved b/c of that. And no hairballs...always a plus.

My dogs are definitely more enjoyable than my cats. My cats have hairballs in my shoes. Knock over anything they can. Knock everything off my tables and counters. And one of them keeps pooping in my kitchen sink and I can never catch which one is doing it. I also have to wait until my cats comes to me wanting attention before I can pet them. My dogs are different. They are ready for attention whenever I call them. They love going for car rides. I never have to look very hard to find them. They don't sleep in my clean laundry and get hair all over it. Except for Fluffy, I find myself more frustrated with my cats more often than not.

LOL Luna.. I've only owned 1 family cat when I was very young. I don't even remember the furballs. She was pretty good though. I was tempted to get one a few years back but I didn't and now with an Akita, & probably only having that breed from now on, I doubt I ever will.

dralionagogo, Welcome to the forum! Around here iit even feels like pittiies are the most in need of homes. I love the breed but hubby is wary of them even tho he has such a smart wife who tells him the bad everyone hears is over hyped. but it also doesn't help that in 1 week alone, there have been 2 news reports on pitties attacking in Chicago. Obviously it IS the owners but I don't want to start on that in here again. I hope you enjoy the forum and we'll get to see some pics & hear stories of the guys you're all rescuing.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

Cats are best in small quantities. And when they get along. And keep their outbursts to a minimum...

I agree with that. When me and my husband first moved in together, there were several cat fights a day because our cats didn't get along. Fluffy and Mr. Grumpy Whiskers were the worst. Probably because they both went to the same vet together to get fixed. The first time they ever met was at the vet. They have learned to coexist now and very rarely get in a fight now.
