Default Hey all!

My new doggie's name is Mick and we rescued him from the humane league 2 months ago. He is almost 2yrs and a Lab/Boxer mix. He's a big boy that has a TON of energy! He loves hide and seek, tug, fetch and eating trash.

Overall he's a good boy but we're having some behavior problems and questions, of which I will post in another thread.

Anyhoodle, nice to meet all of you!

ps- How do I make a profile picture?

He likes to eat trash? Lol Have yet to meet a dog who didn't if you give it the chance.

For prof pics, go to the blue bar (towards the top of this page) and click on "User CP".

Welcome to the forum!

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

Thank you!

We've tried a bunch of different things with the trash..to no avail. Now we just keep a bag under the sink haha. I find bread bags, egg shells and paper towels hidden all over the house.

my dog's not bad with the garbage - i'm lucky enough that when i said "this is MINE!!!!!", he took the lesson first try.

he'll still give it a go the odd time but not often. it's actually true when he points and says "the cats did it!!!!" (easy to tell the difference!).

Porter is the only one of ours that gets in the trash. And it's only the trashcan in the upstairs bedroom. I had taken the trash out of it once, washed it out really good and put a scented bag in it with bitter apple spray and he tore the garbage bag out and tore if to little tiny pieces all over the bedroom. So I think he just hates that trashcan for some reason. We keep a babygate up to keep the dogs from wandering in the kitchen and getting into everything. Maybe you can get one. It has saved a lot of money. My saint bernards and great pyrenees are the same height as the counter, which makes counter surfing easy for them. You can put one up to keep them out of your garbage like we use ours to keep them off of our counters.
