Default Need help house breaking/crate training

I thought we were making great progress today. No accidents all day. Then the rest of the family came home after school/work and Buckley peed 8 times in less than an hour! 3 times outside (good boy!) but 5 times ON THE CARPET ops: ! He's a 9 /10 week old Soft coated wheaten terrier and seems to be pretty intelligent. Sometimes he's going to the door to let me know he needs out. I've had him about 2 weeks now.
We have been using the crate most of the time with some limited supervised play time. He peed right in front of us all these times today. Just stopped and went- BAM! He hadn't had food/water for about 2 hours either.

Any help? Is this normal? Do they NEED to go that much? Is something wrong?

Oh, he's still a little puppy! It sounds like he's so excited with all the people in the house he goes. Also because he's so little, his bladder is little. I would look for signals he might make when he's inside, like sniffing around. Does he pee when he's nervous? I'd still give him time, he is very young. Always reward him when he potties in the right place. Only scold him if he's caught in the act of peeing on the carpet. I've met people who own soft coated Wheatens and they say that they are very smart. I think they are a good sized family sized dog. Good luck, don't get discouraged, he's still very young and if you are actively training him he should come around.

Default HOusebreaking

Petshopgirl-
Buckley seems to be getting better, yesterday we had only one accident in the house. He is going to the door sometimes to let me know he wants outside. He's going out about every 20 minutes, is that normal? Seems like alot. He goes out about every three hours during the night, any idea when he can make it throught the night? I figure he's just too small yet. He does seem to have more trouble when the kids have him all excited. I think he doens't want to miss out on the action, just like a small child.

I'm glad that your puppy is doing better. When my boss is selling a puppy that is really young (they are normally 10 weeks when they come to the store) she tells the potential owner to take the puppy out every half hour then soon go down to every hour, and so on. I think 20 min now is normal and should change, but if you are concerned that he has a urinary tract infection you can take a urine sample to the vet. I doubt that's the case.

Sometimes at work when I have time to work with the bigger dogs, I start walking them outside. Because they are bigger they are easier to train because they should have better bladder control. Since your puppy is littler it may seem difficult but he is starting to learn the routine that you expect of him although he may not be getting it right at the moment. Most dogs thrive on praise so try to keep everything positive and have fun with it. (*L*--my job is very hard sometimes, "petshopgirl" can be my lot in life, but it makes it all the better to talk to the puppies and tell them how good they are and they are the best puppies in the whole wide world)

Stay patient. I find that the first year of owning a puppy or kitten to be a challenge.
