Know a small kid-friendly breed compatible with big dogs?
My wife and I have always liked big dogs, and we have had an adorable husky puppy for a few years now (not really a puppy anymore, of course!). We also have a two year old and another on the way, and we're afraid our husky is too big to play safely with such small children. Any advice on a good breed? We want it to play nicely with our husky, but also to be small enough to play with small children, and fun and lively. We've been looking at cocker spaniels and yorkies, but we have no idea, and we don't have any experience with small dogs. Any help or comments are appreciated!
Thanks, caninefan27

safe with children
hi there i have a baby and an irish staffordshire bull terrier and with the right training he has grown up a wonderfully loyal and trust worthy dog.
all types of staff have a great reputation with children if correctly trained and if you socialise them from very young they are great with other dogs too. so aslong as your husky is dog friendly then this breed is ideal. good luck with your search for the pup you want hope i have shed some light and first hand experience on staffs x x x

What are your reasons for wanting a second dog? Personally, I would wait until you have your second baby and your husky is a little older - taking on another pup at this stage would be very hard work.

Emma get a life
Who are you to inquire why they want a second dog. You are so irritating.
Anyway, I have a Shitzu that plays with my husky every day. The husky plays hard but is very careful not to hurt his little buddy. They are great together.

At the moment, I think you might have your hands a bit full at the moment for a puppy, though maybe you could find an older small or middle size dog? The reason I say this is little chubby baby hands & feet look like chew toys to even the sweetest of puppies. Another reason to wait is that it's to be a companion to your children as well, you'd want to child to be a tad bit older so they will be taller (while standing) & outweigh the new dog. If you still feel the same way after considering everything, I suggest a cocker spaniel over the yorkie. It would be nearer to your other dogs size & many of the very small breeds (such as yorkies) have been overbred to meet demand, so some can have bad temperment. Not to say the breed as a whole is bad tempered, but it would be a streak of bad luck to have a poor bred one with a new baby & toddler around.

Dont worry, huskies are very sweet gentle members of the family and predictably good with children..they are not protectiv by nature, but they are extremly intelligent....I have had a husky for eleven years and I know about it very well...huskies are the best dogs, and the most beaytiful, almost ideal...
