Do any of you guys have any animals that are slightly out of the norm? I have pet rats and have previously owned ferrets(they are now illegal in NZ due to our native birds)

I used to have rats, they are the coolest pets! My boyfriend is creeped out by them so I don't have any now. I used to have ferrets, but I couldn't get used to the smell so I rehomed them. I would like to keep snakes in the future...are you allowed to have them in NZ? My fav non-dog pet of the past was my pot-bellied pig! Morgan Malcolm Xavier Schultz was him name (after a Uni professor who was more of a "pig" than my pot-bellied friend!). That was in the US and I'm not sure if we can have them here (Australia).
