Not a good example. Pets are like humans. They need some lovin' and caring. we should treat them like our best friends.

Well if someone has so little regard for innocent and helpless animals just how much caring and compassion we'll they have for the human race?
I have a real problem with someone being in office who promotes such animal cruelty for the sake of human sport!

What's her problem? She even supports and funding the hunting of wolves and bears. This will end her career for sure...

Yeah! You're right! All I know is that she should serve as a role model. I hate watching the video.

The article doesn't say anything about mistreating pets. Unless you live in Alaska and have ever had to follow a report to get your children and pets in the house because a pack of wolves and wild dogs was coming through town you don't understand how scary and dangerous that is. I may not agree with all the methods but I do understand that something had to be done. I applaud Sarah for not being affraid to do whats right no matter how distasteful it may sound to some. She has my vote!!

So I'm guessing you don't consider aerial hunting cruel and inhumane?....Did you know that rarely is the wolf ever killed by the shots fired from the air?....They are chased by the helicopter until they drop at which point the hunters land and then go and shoot them again....You don't think this is cruel?.....I disagree that this isn't mistreatment of animals.......I must be clear though that this by far is not the only reason I won't vote for her......It just sealed the deal for me!

I did grow up in Alaska and of native American decent. We do not see the wolf as a predator but one that shares the land we reside on. We went through this every night growing up and had no problems accepting and dealing with it. For those who think wolves attack for the sake of attacking are naive in their thoughts. Provoked they will, left alone they will avoid man as often as possible but encroachment by non natives land developers has played a larger role in why the wolf is seen as a threat than any other. Don't blame the wolf for the incompetence of man and his greed and look within yourself if you are residing in the area that was once the land of his ancestors and his hunting ground. Like man, he is here for a purpose of balance that is needed. Gov Pallin is an idiot whether for this reason or for her inability to get on the page with the rest of DC. Saying how she is going to open up the books so people can see how the govt spends tax dollars, hello.....you should have cleared this with McCain and if you had you would have seen that this was done by both Obama and McCain 2 years ago. There is actually a website tax payers can go to see this. In addition the $350 m dollars for the road to nowhere...then kept the monies and still used it. I would not be so quick to open up the books for tax payers to see that blunder. If you fear the wolf, do not live where it has resided long before you arrived. It is called sharing but unfortunately many non natives have never grasped the philosophy. Wolves and man can co-exist and have for centuries it is only recently that a few reports of confrontations has caused the uproar where man is calling for nothing less than the extermination of wolves where in fact they brought the confrontation on themselves. Simply put, man is the most ignorant of all animal species, only man has an ego and see's itself as a species above all others when in fact it would be lucky if it is in the top 10 with regards to its intelligence level in comparison to other animal species.

I have spent many years living in Alaska. No I am not a native. I did post that I didn't approve of the methods. I have never thought ariel shooting was very sportsmanlike. I also don't like hunting with dogs. {Or on the side of the road with a six pack}.
I don't have a better idea for dealing with the wolf problem. I love animals and I am not a hunter. {well, I hunt with a camera}. I am a supporter of the gas line in Alaska. I don't like listening to the overboard environmentalists.

Sportsman like?,,,,It's cruel and inhumane!!!!!.....I think you should read Yogi's post as he is from Alaska.....To be clear...Palin doesn't kill the wolves because they pose a threat to humans....She kills then so the big game hunters have more Caribou and Elk to hunt for themselves....Did you read the link?

Yes, I read the link and I also read Yogi's post and I respect his opinion. Do you eat beef, chicken, pork, turkey? Is it in your dog's food? The way THOSE animals are raised and slaughtered IS inhumane and they are posing no threats whatsoever to mankind in any way. What makes you so sure the wolves and bears don't cause a problem? Because someone that has issues with Palin wrote an article? My sister lives in Eagle River Alaska and can't always get to her car in her driveway right next to her house in the morning to go to work because of bears. Forget the hooie about how the animals were here first. That isn't realistic. So you don't have a problem in your neck of the woods. Lucky you.
Do you have rattlesnakes in your area? Would you like to see them killed to insure your and your pets safety? Maybe you would have a live and let live attitude. I think it's all baloney.

Splinters, though I understand the need to control wild game it is Palins philosophy and reason that seems to be what you maybe missing. As Ree noted, Palin is not authorizing the killing and bounty on these animals for the protection of the residents that may be at risk but to further her NRA friends so that they have Caribou, Elk etc to hunt. This is a totally one sided agenda that does nothing to address the constituents that elected her. Instead she is in a sense being bought by a group who's only agenda is to go on hunting trips with an assurance of having game to kill and heads to mount on walls. These are not legitimate hunters but safari idiots. If anything, local hunters in Alaska like those I grew up around should be demanding a halt to the current practice as we relied on Elk and Caribou as well as bear as meat for the winter when I was a boy up there. It was never looked upon as game for the purpose of trophy.
As for your sisters situation, it is unfortunate but it is not baloney. It is fact that common sense is when looking to move and live in an area you need to check out your surroundings as to any possible problems you may encounter. In the city this means negative elements as found in south central LA or in Alaska, wild animals. Lack of common sense is no excuse for bounty hunting no matter what. It is attitudes like this that only reinforce that man is ignorant and lets his ego get the better of his logic when it comes to that fact that we share this earth we do not own it. Anyone who believes otherwise is truly missing something.

Splinters, just so you know....You can go to Palins own Governors website, type in wolves in the search box and you can see that on her website she states that the hunting for wolves is so that there's more game for the hunters.
That is unless it's been removed since people are speaking out against it!...
My best friend lived in Alaska for years and she never had a problem with wolves coming around her home....In fact where she was the problem was always the Moose....I guess they should be slaughtered in the same cruel and inhumane way?

I understand what you guys are saying, Yogi and Rees. I lived in Fairbanks for many years and also in Anchorage. It was in Fairbanks where we got the radio and police warnings to get indoors because of the packs coming through town. Ofcourse that was many years ago. I don't live there now. Actually I am in North Carolina and I was out taking photos of bears and deers and coyotes tonight.
I still have alot of family in Alaska, in Fairbanks, Anchorage, Palmer, Eagle River, Ketchikan and Juneau.
I really don't like the idea of killing one animal just so that others ca get a trophy. I don't care for that kind of hunting either. I am a full believer in the saying "if you kill it, eat it".
I can't help but believe there has to be more to this argument because from my understanding the folks in Alaska over all really like Palin. I see her as more of a REAL person.

it must also be pointed out that the federal govt at this time is looking to override Palins bounty hunting ordinance claiming it is inhumane. She is threatening to use Alaska state tax dollars to fight it. Sort of how she sold the state jet claiming it was a luxury that the state could not afford then proceeded to rack up a larger yearly cost flying her family everywhere commerically. The price of these trips, yep..greater than the cost to have kept and used the state jet. She also stays in her own home and then bills the state for it. Under state law anytime a governor stays outside of the capital home provided he/she is entitled to compensation for the cost of the stay. She is using this loophole even though she is not paying out of pocket to stay in her own home. The rule was designed as is in nearly every state to compensate an official for hotel/motel lodging fees when not in the state residence. It is unfortunate that she also used the $300 plus million designated for the "road to nowhere" instead of returning the monies to the federal coffers once they decided not to build the road yet she talks about how she wants to stop this type of spending. She says she will open the books so Americans can see and get an accounting of where their tax dollars go and this she wants to personally see when she is elected. Unfortunately had she asked her running mate, she would have discovered that 2 years ago McCain and Obama jointly created this program and is already in existence. I am sorry, getting off the topic a little but when one looks at her train of thought it is no wonder that she would have created the bounty program. It is unfortunate also that more Alaskan's are not appalled at her and for that matter Sen Stevens who was currently indited for federal violations. Appears too much money is being used improperly by these 2 and it was only a matter of time before it came out.
