Default Freaky Finch!

Hi! I just thought I'd share this in the "Off Topic" area and see if it's as freaky as I think it is...!

I was washing dishes the other day, and I looked at my bird feeder outside and there was this beautiful male finch eating away. I thought nothing of it, but then awhile later, he was still there...I thought, oooh, photo op! So, I went outside - usually they fly away, but this guy stayed right there, munching away. So, I got really close & snapped the 1st photo. He didn't move, so I moved in closer and actually touched him! (photo 2). Feeling bold, and remembering how I used to train budgies, I put my finger behind his claws and he jumped right on my finger!!! (photo 3).

I had the camera in my other hand, so the photo is kind of blurry, but you can see my freckled finger holding this freaky finch!! I tried giving him water, but he just wanted back on the feeder, so I put him back. He stayed for awhile longer, then a chickadee scared him away - I haven't seen him since then. Anyone else had a similar encounter?? I kind of felt like a Bird Whisperer!!

Wow, that's awesome. Never had anything like that. Closest story I would have is a hummingbird let me get about 3 feet from him in order to take a picture. I started out at 10 or 15 feet so I was sure he'd fly away before I got that close.

Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

Oh, how adorable! He's so handsome, too! The closest I've ever gotten was when I near about got hit in the by a rampart bluejay-- REALLY not the same! Perhaps he wasn't always wild, or came off of a reserve or aviary?

That's just too cute!

Wow! That's awesome. When I was a kid I always used to wish I could hold wild birds like that, just hold out my finger and they would hop on, like Snow White. Silly, I know.

lol - no, not silly! I used to wish that too, I guess that's why I tried it in the first place...I really didn't think it would happen though, but boy am I glad I had my camera with me! I haven't seen the finch since that day, so I guess it was a once in a lifetime thing. :-D
