| Being Able to get in touch fast! I realize that a lot of members don't want to give their email address (on their profile page) as a contact. I wish more would because
a member may come up with something important (even lifesaving info--example warning not to use Proin or Get to the Vet now) and the person who posted doesn't come back to read important info---some never do even after they post the question! It can become very frustrating worrying about their dogs and never being able to contact them! These people may never come back in forum but you know they will pretty quickly see a regular email! Any comments? |

Sounds like a good idea to me! I don't remember if my email address is in my profile. If I ever find it again (computer illiterate here), I'll add it.

Me too! I must admit, I reply to posts sometimes and, what with all the new posts, and not getting a chance to visit here everyday, I wonder if they get lost... Sometimes, I check in my profile, and click on the 'posts' I've made to see if there is anything new.
I'll go add my e-mail address now (if it's not there already) - I also don't remember!!

Some might just drop by and post to get some more information and probably posting too on other communities. As for emails, even I, I would never put my email ID on public, I have to create another email before as the older one already conquered by spammers.

If you put you want to be notified this way in your contacts on your profile page---the person emailing you would not see your address as it goes through the forum 1st. I have done this several times and know this. The only way a member would get your address is if you replied by your regular way of emailing to them instead of going through the forum first.
Will give an example: This just happened last night--I was pretty sure (and worried) that a member was giving too much aspirin to her dog. I wanted her to know about this right away before it could harm her dog. I had the feeling she might not come back in the forum for a while as she said her dog was doing better--but was still giving aspirin. (and you know some people never do come back in to see any replys--And don't anyone tell me that that is her/his fault---IT IS NOT THE DOG'S FAULT AND IT IS THE ONE AT RISK!!!!) So I (she was one who did give this method of reaching her)
clicked on that method and sent a message warning her about too much aspirin. Now I never get to see her address as it goes through this forum. If she/he wants to reply to me ---They can reach me by private messaging or a post or an email through the forum. And even if the person you send to got your email address---It is not something the whole forum can see--would only be the person you mailed to and you would have their email address too!!
Now if I am missing something here, let me know.
I don't want my email address for the public to see either but feel this way is pretty safe and I sure want to try to save a dog from getting sick or dying if I can by being able to get the message to the owner as fast as I can---They
may never see my concern any other way fast enough if at all!

| Another Example Just Now!!!! I am very frustrated right now!! A member (Pain meds and dogs thread) just started giving her dog 100mgs of Rimadyl !! I went to her profile page, hoping she gave her email address as a way of contact. She didn't and I am so afraid for her dog!! She prob. won't be back in the forum for a while as she took dog to vet and she said everything is okay cause she found out what was wrong with the dog!!! Nothing I can do!!!--Feel very helpless and just hoping that killer Rimadyl doesn't damage her dog for life or kill it before she gets it off the crap. YEH, I sent her a private message but what good is that--She would have to come in the forum to see it!!! |

As Corky/Max noted, ones personal e-mail is not visible when messaging using a forum site. It is a way to safely converse without the sender or receiver seeing ones personal e-mail address unless one elects to go outside the forum.

The most need though is for the new members that come in and post something happening with their dog and don't realize about doing this! I guess not much I can do about that and just be happy if it does help save some member's dog's life. Thanks again, Yogi for realizing that this could be important to do. I am totally committed to dogs! |

Ya know everybody: If you are afraid of giving your address because of junk mail or spam or what ever, just set up a new acct on hotmail or yahoo or where ever just for these forums. that would leave your normal email alone. they are free and you can have as many as you want.
