The dubious advantages of living out of boxes.
As some of you may know, I am in the process of moving. Currently, I'm waiting for a one bedroom apartment to become available in my building that meets with my and the girls approval. In the mean time, I had the not-so-scathingly-brilliant idea of packing up all the stuff that I didn't deem essential to our everyday lives. I now know that the road to hell is truly paved with good intentions.
What this means for someone who is as disorganized as I am to begin with is that now, instead of not knowing where most things are, I don't know where anything is. Bailey is a veteran of a couple of moves so, she takes everything in stride as long as nothing of hers ends up in a sealed box. Lara, on the other hand, finds the whole situation terribly exciting and spends a lot of her time doing the "box-top boogie." That little JRT can climb like a mountain goat!!! She's also managed to dig her way into a couple of boxes just for the shear delight of discovering what mommy packed in them. There is a reason for that old saying, "duct tape is a girl's best friend!!!" At least now, when I can't find something, I can convince myself that I already packed it!
My apartment is looking less and less like a home and, more and more like a miniature warehouse. I will be SO glad when I finally get moved, settled and redecorated. I've also had to give away a lot of stuff because I won't have room for it in a smaller apartment and I hate to live in a place with so much furniture that you can barely move.
The worst part is, I don't know when a one bedroom that we'll find acceptable will come available. I'm hoping it won't be too long. If anyone has some good ideas as to how to survive living in chaos, please let me know!!! My nerves are shot!!!

Poor thing! I am in a much smaller place hoping to move to a bigger one and a lot of my things are packed for lack of room. I'm very organized though, so though its a pain, at least I know where things are!

Actually, it's more like I pack them and Lara makes herself very busy "breaking into" the boxes and unpacking selected items! I've had to duct tape every box!

I remember when i moved into my very first apartment. I had a cat named Fuzz. I moved all of my boxes. And when I went to bring Fuzz, I couldn't find her anywhere. I looked all over for that cat. I finally decided to come back the next day to see if I could find her. I did find her the next morning in the box with all the towels. She must have made herself comfy and fell asleep in there. Thank goodness I took a shower in the morning instead of waiting until the afternoon. She was a silly cat.

I just wish that Lara would wait until we've actually moved before she "helps mommy unpack!"

Update:
Well, I am still living out of boxes; I'm just living out of more of them now. The other day I was informed that it could be a bloody year until I get moved!!!
There is a woman in my building who I actually know quite well who was diagnosed with ALS in the spring. Her symptoms are progressing at an alarmingly fast rate. She is already barely able to walk and spends most of her time in an electric wheelchair. She lives in a tiny bachelor and desperately needs a larger apartment so, when one comes up, it will go to her as it should. She needs the place way more than I do.
So, for the forseable future, I'm not going to be going anywhere fast unless a lot of people suddenly decide to vacate large one bedroom apartments. The upside is that I'll have lots of additional time to dispose of the junk I've been hanging onto for years for absolutely no good reason!

I won't be living out of boxes for much longer!!!
I finally have an apartment!!! I'll be moving on December 15th - not the best time to move but, at least it will be over and done with.

Hey, that's great--happy for you! And actually a lot sooner then you thought it might take. Did that poor lady get another apartment too? And moving in on the 15th of Dec. might also be a good time--Will give you just enough time to get settled in before the new pup arrives.
New changes for the soon to be here new year. Do you have to move boxes up or down any stairs----Maybe you have an elevator!

The person with ALS doesn't have an apartment yet. They basically have to gut an apartment and outfit it for someone who is disabled. I understand they are working on it. Only certain apartments are candidates for this kind of renovation because of the layout.
Thankfully, we have an elevator that can be put on service!
I'll probably leave Lance with the breeder for an extra week while the rest of us settle in. I don't want to loose him among all the boxes!!!

Update:
Well, here we are in our new apartment. It's a lot smaller but I really like it. Now, it is me, 3 dogs and a cat!!! Trust me; bed space has become something to cherish!!! I'm still living out of boxes but more of them are getting unpacked and thrown out every day. I think we're going to like it here!!!
