DUH! I should of Thought of That!
I have a habit of using colored print (green mostly) in my posts. Well, I just went to make a copy of a recipe I did in here which I had originally done in blue and couldn't figure out for a couple tries why my printer wouldn't copy it. Well, DUH!--My colored print cartridge is empty of ink--has been for a long time---I don't like the cost of the colored ink!!---so it wouldn't print it!
So I will try to remember this and do my posts that might want to be printed out in black ink and also stay away from the bold print so 'you guys' (and me) can save a little money!! Not saying this is easy for me as I like the colored posts, darn!!
I even went back in on all those colored recipes I did and made them so they are black now!!! Lol, they looked so much better before being colored! But guess I can live with it!

I have a Kodak printer too. Got it a year ago and love the price of ink...cheapest of any I ever owned.
I printed a forward last week to share with my MIL. Didnt even think that many of the words in it were in different colors. Printed it like i received it....and alot of the words could barely be read...because they were in yellow!
Teach me to pay attention!

I've seen couple of printers that have what they said "continues ink". They have external bottles of inks connected using small tubes into inside of printer, instead of regular cartridge.

It may take a couple extra clicks but you can use colord type and when you go to print go under properties and set to pint in black and white.

Black ink is usually a tad cheaper than the color, so I print near everything in black unless color is necesarry.

colored print cartridges are very expensive, but since they started import it from the far east the price is more resonable

Hey! Just came across this!
I was just going thru my emails so I could delete some--got message that my virtual memory is low! Found this that I had saved from back last Oct. I have never tried this--forgot I even had it!! But passing it on and I am going to try it when my 'ink gets low' next time. Sounds good -hope it works!:
Your Printer is Lying to You and Wasting Your Money
Posted by: Dr. Mercola

If you’re anything like me, you hate wasting money. Personally, I can’t stand waste of any kind, so when I found this article, I simply had to share it. These handy tips and tricks can save you lots of money by not having to replace your ink cartridges before they’re completely empty.
Both laser and inkjet printers are notorious for requiring expensive replacement cartridges long before you really need to. It's actually epidemic in the industry, to the point where class action lawsuits have been filed against Epson and Hewlett-Packard.
Enter Slate Magazine writer Farhad Manjoo. When his printer abruptly stopped printing, he began to wonder if the printer wasn't simply lying that it was out of toner in order to trick him into buying more. The prints hadn't been fading at all, but the printer simply refused to go on.
But with a bit of research, Manjoo saved his 60 dollars and instead covered up a sensor on the side of the toner cartridge with a piece of electrical tape. This tricked the printer into thinking the cartridge was full -- and the printer's been going strong ever since, eight months and hundreds of pages down the road.
If you want to find out what you can do to convince your printer to continue printing, FixYourOwnPrinter is a good place to start. WILL GO BACK AND SEE IF I CAN GET THIS INFO!

Has anybody tried having their cartridges refilled as opposed to replacing them?

I was just going to suggest refilling the ink versus buying a whole new one. My town has several different ink refill places and I'm sure there are many online too. Really worth it cost wise
