Snakes are good pets becuase you only have to feed them like once every two weeks. You only have to clean thier cage when it gets smelly. You can take a snake to reptile shows. I like corn snakes because they don't get very big, and they're easy to handle.
I HOPE THIS HELPS!:-D

i like them... when i'm away from them.
but i think snakes represent strength and probably it goes the same way to owners... those who own one or more are strong, bold, and adventurous people

I love snakes, they're one of my favourite animals. I wouldn't ever own them because they are not the type of pet I think I'd be able to care for, but they are such beautiful animals.
They remind me of my childhood, not because I used to own them but because they remind me of dinosaurs. Dinosaurs used to be my life when I was a child, I had dinosaur-themed everything.

Strange thread?
I have snakes (like about a hundred) and am into dogs as well.
We use the snakes for live venomous snake shows in Melbourne Australia, which gets people asking us "why would you keep a pet that can kill you?"
However for what it's worth, more kids get eaten up by pet rottweilers, dingos and the like rather than die from snakebite.
My view is that it's horses (or dogs or snakes) for courses?
Anyway, my wife hates them all because she hates cleaning up their mess.
We happen to have the world's top five deadliest snakes, handle them daily and none have killed me or the kids yet! ... and they also handle them.
If anyone wants me to post some pics, let me know.
Cheers

I've never had a pet snake, but I like them. When I was little, I'd always beg to go to the reptile house at the zoo so I could look at them.

Mmm
Someone here wrote:

That assumes you only have one - when you have lots, it becomes a full time job keeping them clean.
Most people with snakes get adicted and have heaps!
All the best

Thinking about it, i would own snake as a pet rather than, let's say, a hamster:lol:.

Snakeman!!!
I finally decided to post here! How in the world can you even think of having your kids handle these 5 deadliest snakes or other poisonous snakes!!!!? I hate snakes--all kinds! I think you have been lucky so far that one of you haven't been bitten yet and this is a tragedy waiting to happen. Then how will you feel about snakes!? And how will you handle it if one of your kids gets bit and dies, heaven forbid!!

That reminds me of a documentary I watched earlier in the year. It talked about people who owned exotic animals and how they were attracted to the dangerous, "misunderstood" aspect of the animal. All the stories they told ended with the owners dying at their "pets hands"; lizards, big cats, chimp, snakes...VERY chilling & sad for the loved ones!
I believe it was called Fatal Attractions from Animal PLanet. Not one of the owners thought anything bad would happen to them. Each one thought they & their pets were an exception..obviously they were wrong. I love snakes too but I wouldn't go near one that was poisonous.

I know this was an old post.. I guess you can compare it to wanting fish; You can't cuddle or play with them but you can watch them and hold them (the snake not the fish lol).
When I was I was about 10 y/o I had a small, Green Smooth Snake. I even had a little plastic carrying case I would take it in when I would go outside. I guess I'm just an animal person, bugs & rodents being the exception! Non-aquarium animals weren't an option in my house growing up so the snake worked for me.
Oh and snakes are not slimey. That's a misconception

I love snakes! When I was young I wanted to be a herpetologist, I'd read so many books and try to catch them (bad idea, luckily no bites). I don't want to be a herpetologist anymore, but I still love them. I have never owned any snakes, but I've handled some. My seventh grade biology teacher had a ball python that I'd spend my lunch time with. She wanted to let me take him over the summer but my mom hates rats. Have your snakes ever tied themselves in a knot? One of my friends had a snake and I held it and after a while I looked down and they were in a knot.
