I have severe snake phobia. I can't even watch them on television without immediately changing the channel or leaving the room.

Tarantulas have as much poison as a bee sting. If you are not allergic to bee stings, a Taran bite won't kill you. One of the Tarantulas I had was a Brazilian Salmonhair. The natives in the rain forest take their shedded skins and make itching powder from it. They have hairs on their legs that causes an allergic reaction and makes you itch for hours. It is also the largest spider in the world. African trapdoor spiders are some of the most poisonous spiders in the world. They require a lot of experience to own. Most of what I had requires experience and responsibility. These are not creatures to have just to show off. I had mine for a an arachnid, poisonous insect, and antivenom study.

Maybe it's just me but, I just don't understand the attraction of this sort of companion. You can't take them out with you without starting a mass panic, they don't appear to be cuddly in nature, I'm sure they couldn't catch a tennis ball to save their lives...What is the attraction? (Am cringing as I type this...)

It's really strange. There is no reason that I can remember that would have caused it, unless something happened when I was too young to remember. It seems it has always been there. I can't explain it.

Lara, maybe you can do some reading on snakes. Some people are scared of things if they don't know about them. Maybe if you could educate yourself, then you will have lees fear of them and then maybe you can see a snake and know where it lives, what it eats, whether or not it is poisonous, ect...
I think it's funny when I see those man-eating snake movies and they show a ball python. I have to laugh and think "That snake wouldn't hurt a pissant!"

Default Snakes??? YIKES!!!

Could someone please explain to me why snakes (Demon spawn in my books) are considered good pets? You can't take them anywhere without freaking a lot of people out. They sure as hell aren't something you would cuddle. They're slimy and ugly!!! What is the attraction except to frighten people?
