Helped A Fellow Doggie owner in Distress...
With a foot of snow on the ground, my husband and I decided Wal-Mart may not be too crowded today. Last minute Christmas shopping wouldn't be such a pain... We don't have four-wheel drive. 'aren't you afraid we'll get stuck?' I said. He's adventurous though and we plowed through the high snow to Wal-Mart. On the way home, cars were slowing down on the busy road, some stopping... and I noticed a boy, about twelve... red faced and crying almost laying in a snow drift, then Gary (my husband) said something about a dog running loose. There it was, a big black lab running scared in the heavy traffic dodging cars as his owners called for him to come back. I almost cried. Gary put the car in park, right in the middle of the busy highway. 'Should I help?' he said. 'yes!'. He opened the car door, 'here boy... come here...' he called. The dog ran right for our car and Gary grabbed his collar. 'I have him!' he yelled... and his owner (a woman about my age) who was on the verge of a breakdown it seemed, hurried over with a harness and thanked us.
Before Leaving Wal-Mart, we ordered lunch to take home with us, and it was in our car when the wayward dog befriended us, and we think that's what drew him to us... the smell of hamburgers. Whatever the case... we were so thankful for deciding to go out today... and I was never prouder of my husband for rescuing someone's sweet baby...
I've had Gracie pull out of her harness before while walking when she was enticed by another dog, so I know what it feels like... the terror and thoughts that go through your mind when your baby gets away... especially near a busy street.
Just wanted to share that story... it made my day! Merry Christmas everyone.
