Big Time Computer Problems
Just wanted everyone to know that the reason you won't see me in the forum much is because of big problems (infected). I can't get into a lot of 'things' and just lucky I got in here right now! I don't know when I will get things fixed---cost money and this is/has been a bad couple months for 'money flying out the door.' Will miss this forum!

what a shame we are not close by, I fix computers in my spare time, if you get the chance to see this message, and reply, can you let me know exactly what has been happening, i might be able to help you get it running somewhat over the forum. What operating system do you use etc?
Firstly try a system restore and roll back to when the computer was last running OK, you may at least be able to work with it from there if you can get it back to a suitable restore point, it is not going to get rid of the problems but perhaps at least buy some time, and get it working well enough to back up important documents etc, and then start tackling the bigger issues.

Some computers fly really well when you toss them out the window.
Not sure where you live, but there are programs out there that will help pay for a new or used computer for people that can't afford to get a new one. Maybe you can check in your area and see if there is such a program.

I'm Back!!!
[B] Hooray, I'm back! Just had a repair guy fix things! It was pretty bad--had over a hundred and sixty infections! I now have a new antivirus--Avira, and Mozilla firefox and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware--all free!
Only thing is I am very leery of doing 'anything' after that experience--Wireshark. I couldn't get anything to come up in the end to even attempt to try and fix anything! I was blocked on everything. My computer is running faster now but, lol, not fast enough to suit the repair guy. He thinks I should get a new tower---My computer is nearly 7 yrs old and I need more ram, etc. I will keep 'playing' with this one for awhile--till things get really 'wore out.' Anyway it is good to be back!
And thanks for the offer of help, Nattie! I wanted to do a restore but the Wireshark blocked everything! I had other infections that had prob. been in my computer for a couple of years so the $40.00 I had to pay for the repair was well worth it. I'm not that computer savy so I had him do a lot of other things for me too. Lol, I need somebody to repair me after all that--Am afraid to even open e-mail attachments now even with all the new protection!

Depends on your PC i suppose, I thought about upgrading the one ive got for something newer (great pc, but a bit daggy looking now, I bought it as a pretty advanced system 4 years ago and figured with the way technology advances that it may not see me through for that much longer) and when I took it in to the computer store the guy just laughed at me, and said "this old thing kicks ass over the new computer I just built myself"............needless to say I walked back out of the store with my old computer....lol
If you purchase a relatively good pc, that has room for upgrades, new graphics cards etc, they can last a long time, just wont necessarily look as funky as the new PCs you see around, but if you have the room for them, can internally run the same sort of things.
My very first PC was a discount store $300 thing, which really only lasted 18 months before it could not keep up with the families growing demand of it, but this one, must be keeping up with our needs

Nice to see you around. I was getting concerned because I hadn't heard from you and I usually receive something almost every day. Now I know why!! I'm glad everything is alright now.

Yeh, I'm kind of back! Now I am getting pop-ups when I get in the forum that will not go away even when I click on the red x on them--they keep moving and the x moves 'above ' my screen and won't let me at them---very annoying. I am using a different browser than Internet Explorer and has caused some differences I don't like. I don't want to go back to Explorer as it isn't as 'secure' as Mozilla. Maybe I will get more familiar with this new one--Mozilla. But I am kind of not comfortable even in the forum right now. You prob. know what I mean, Tara (Lara's Mom)--I am a little behind--new people and older posts to catch up on. And hey, it is good to see you back too! I had just about decided you must not be coming back at all---Glad that didn't happen!
Don't know if I will be quite as active as before--After finding out how infected my computer was--I am leery of going into all the websites that I researched for a lot of my posts in here. I need a new tower also--It is very slow and I need more ram. Can't really afford a new tower right now.
And being a Taurus---I don't like change. Lol, being old --I don't like change!
But, I'll slowly assimilate the changes. If I don't, I may as well quit the Internet altogether as this Dog Forum is my 'main thing.' (maybe 90% of why I use the internet).

I don't care much for change either but, sometimes it can be a positive thing. See if you can get an additional memory card installed. That may help.

I'm so glad you mentioned that! I was wondering if it was just me since no one else had said anything. Those ad's block a huge section of the screen and I can't X them out. Has been annoying me like crazy. Have not been checking the site as often because of it. Maybe it is a Firefox thing since I use it as well. BTW Taurus here too!

I thought about doing that and asked the repair guy about it but he said it is like fixing up an old car to keep sticking more money into this old a computer--that eventually the computer is going to 'die' and will have 'nickeled and dimed (dollared) me to death.' on the way. Said best to save up some money and buy a new tower---that can get one fairly cheap. Just have to know what I want for features. And being not too computer savy and not ready to spend the money right now---just kind of dragging my feet. Lol, and speaking of old cars, (which mine is--and definitely will never be able to buy a new one) Have to get mine fixed and that is going to be about $300.00---Lol, same price I will prob. need for a new computer tower----Think I need the car working as a 1st priority.
But thanks for the suggestion!

Lol, are you a 'stubborn' bull like me?! Suppose to be one of the traits but the thing is caution is the reason why a Taurus appears stubborn--afraid of change!
I did figure out that if you click on another 'page' when you have the pop-up ----It goes with the previous page---like when it is stuck there--click on the heading dog forum or another heading (your profile for instance or whatever. Eventually it doesn't come back (for the present session--but it will be the same thing every time you again go in the forum!)
And if the pop up does stop moving (happens sometimes) and has an x that you can click on (hasn't moved off the page) then it will work if you click it to get rid of it.

I don't have anything like that---It came with your computer, right? What kind of computer (brand) do you have and how old is it?

there are several different add blockers out there, I personally use add muncher, love it, we watch very little TV station TV here, everything we watch is via internet tv, so we can watch our favorites when WE want to watch them , but they come with lots of pop ups and adds, add muncher removes all those and for face book users, it even removes all the adds on the side of your profile. Stops them all!

Sometimes the simplest things elude me! LOL Pop up blockers! I don't think I have one on my laptop. I'm going to try Add Muncher since it works on Facebook ad's too. I hope it's a freebie program. Thank you ladies!
Oh my gosh Corky/Max! Cautious to a fault. I'm stubborn as hell but even the cautiousness beats it out. My husband is a Taurus too..sometimes I rather beat my head against a wall than argue, it's nothing but exhausting and frustrating.

The one I have is free. You download it from filehippo...BTW, I got an additional memory card and it only cost me about $10.
