hey im new
Hey I'm new,
Found this forum while i was looking for some information on puppies being pregnant, I personally don't have any pups that are pregnant, I'm against it and was trying to give this girl some advice.
Anyway,
I own two Siberian huskies (brother and sister) coming up 9 months.
Would love to get to know you all!

Hi and welcome. You can tell your friend that just because a dog is physically able to conceive a litter of puppies it is not desirable. Just as a twelve year old girl can become pregnant and give birth she is not mature enough to be a mother - she is a child herself. In the same way if a bitch conceives in her first season she is too young to be a mum. There are physical strains on her body obviously that she is too young to withstand and emotionally she is not ready so there is an increased likelihood of her not being able to care for the puppies properly. At the time of her first or second season, before the age of 2 years, she is too young to have undergone any genetic or health tests for her breed.
All that is without considering the ethical issues. All over the world pounds and shelters are overflowing with dogs and puppies of all sort and breeds. For every pup born one of those dogs will have to be PTS. There are nowhere near enough homes for them all. IF your friend's bitch is an outstanding example of the breed, IF she has found a stud that is equally outstanding and IF she is prepared to commit to caring for each of the puppies produced for the rest of their lives then maybe she would be right to breed - when the bitch has had her health tests and is of a suitable age of course.
If not there is no reason why she should add to the problem.
If her dog has conceived already the only thing responsible thing for her to do is to take her to the vet and have the puppies aborted. There is no alternative for a caring owner.

Thank you for the welcome and taking the time to write that information out for me.
I agree with what you've written.
The girl got these two Siberian Huskies (not registered - doesn't know pedigree) only 2 weeks ago, the lady she got the dogs from let the bitch get pregnant (in other words didn't care, let her do whatever, didn't watch over her), she is only 5? months old.
The girl is getting 'rid' of both of the pups for $500 (why she has them for sale is beyond me) the girl believes the dog has feelings (yes all dogs have feelings) hence why she is not going to abort the pregnancy, there is a high chance the dog might die, the pups having problems/dieing etc.

The bitch is only 5 months old? Highly unlikely. It is unlikely that she would have had a season yet and, having had a season and conceived it is unlikely she would now be obviously pregnant.
If your friend is concerned about the poor dog's "feelings" ask her to consider how the bitch will "feel" coping with the pain and stress of giving birth and the stress of caring for her puppies - should she and the puppies actually survive the birth.
Your friend sounds very immature herself.

My Harley had puppies while she was only a puppy. She is spayed now but her former owner said she had a litter not too long ago. They spayed her in May after she had her puppies. Her birthday is May 10 2009, so it was before she was a year old that she became a young mommy. She is a puppy in my eyes and looks like a young pug (because she is), so it hurts me to imagine her going through the pain of birthing and carrying a litter. She's my baby dog (the name my mom gave her and she shouldn't have to go through having babies herself.
I think if someone truly cared about a dogs feelings, they should not let them have puppies at such a young age. It's not good for the litter or the mother.

Hiya! Welcome to the forums. I am kind of a "newbie" myself, seeing how I never come on the forums, but I have been here for a while. I used to post often with a different account (with which i forgot the name and password completely, sigh). Anyway, I'm here now, and I'd love to get to know you better too!
My father's old dog fathered puppies with a six month old bitch, and she actually died while giving birth. I don't know if that's how it will happen for all bitches but that's what happened then. Perhaps the bitch I'm speaking of was too small...anyway, I don't know if puppies having puppies is a good idea...

To put this in prospective, an 11 or 12 year old young girl has her first period. Does this mean she should become pregnant? Common sense, just because a female comes into season does in no way mean physically she can safely reproduce without a high risk of physical harm or death. There is two separate definitions of maturity, sexual and physical. As with humans this occurs at different times. In dogs, sexual maturity on average is between 6 to 8 months of age. Physical maturity in small breeds 2 years, larger breeds 3 years to reach full growth. Primary reasons for waiting til at least 2 years of age, especially in the smaller breeds.
