Hospital again!
Well I got to spent the entire day and most of the night in the ER getting fluids and meds to stop the vomiting and pain from my CVS...Now I can spend all day tomorrow making up for all the sleep I lost and sleeping off all the meds...Good thing we have to set the clocks back because I can sure use that extra hour...lol

Hope you are feeling better! I must be a 'dummy' because I don't know what CVS means! Even looked it up on Google and all I could gather from that ---Had to do with pharmacies. Were you allergic/having a reaction from some meds? Anyway hope it is all behind you now--Get better quick!

CVS is a pharmacy.
Isn't it a neurological disorder that makes you have problems using your legs?
No, wait, it's Cardial Vascular Something-or-other.

LOL you guys are great!...Most people don't know what it is including a lot of Dr.s...It stands for Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome....
About every 6-8 generally I start vomiting up to at least 12 times an hour along with severe abdominal pain...I have meds at home to take but it's a 50/50 chance as to wether they work or not...When they don't I have to go to the ER to get fluids so I don't dehydrate and so that I can get my meds IV and stop the attack...
Usually I wait a day or two before I go and I wind up in the hospital for about 4 days but I went right away this time so I just had to stay for the day until my blood work started coming back normal.

No I don't mind at all and thank you for posting the link...That's the one thing that we patients need.....Awareness!...I'm fortunate to have such a wonderful GI he made sure to give me a written treatment protocal to give to the ER Dr.s....Fortunately I use the same ER and I've been there so many times that I know almost all the Dr.s so they pretty much see my name and initiate treatment and then they come to talk with me once my symptoms have calmed down a bit.

OMG!!! I'd never heard of CVS. It sounds like an awful condition to have to live with.

It absolutely, totally sucks!!!...I can't think of any other way to put it!..The cycles come usually every 6-8 weeks but you can have the nausea on off for days at a time...Once it starts though it's all over and you get so completely exhausted from the constant throwing up and the dehydration and stomach pain that all you want to do is sleep which is totally impossible!..Luckily my GI has in my ER treatment plan that if after 3 rounds of meds the symptoms don't subside I am to be sedated....That however requires about a 6hr wait before I have 3 rounds and even though my GI gave me the treatment protocol since he doesn't have privileges at the ER I go to I've had a few ER Dr.s who wouldn't sedate me...When that happens and since it's usually 3am when I'm admitted I wind up waiting until late in the morning for the GI on call to come see me and order the sedation...So that means I wind up heaving for at least 24hrs...Luckily though the pain meds are IV so at least I don't have to deal with that the whole time..

YIKES!!! Is there any sort of treatment to combat the nausea other than sedation?

If I have to go to the ER they give me an anti-nausea drug called Zofran at twice the dose they give chemo patients along with a anti anxiety, anti nausea drug called Ativan and I get those every 4hrs and in between I get another anti nausea drug which is either Phenergan or Tigan depending on the Dr.....I have the same meds at home but of course they're all in pill form so if I can get it in my system before I get to nauseated it usually works but the majority of the time I wake up out of a dead sleep in the middle of the night and head straight to the bathroom...When that happens the pill form is out of the question!...So when I go to the ER the severity of the nausea and vomiting and how long it's been going on before I got there usually determines how many rounds of meds it'll take before it stops.

Thanks lange...We're hoping the new med I'm on will make the attacks less frequent but I won't know for a month or to...We'll have to wait and see what happens...
I think sometimes it's harder on poor hubby then it is me!
