Unwanted pop-ups and ads
I have been plagued with pop-ups and ads contaminating my Forum browsing on this site.
No problem - but I am talking with the blessed convenience of Firefox - other browsers ? No idea.
Solution - install Adblock Plus as a Firefox add-on, ABP for short.
The ABP icon appears at the top right of your screen. If it is red, then it is active, if green then all the data on the screen is authorised. YOU have the choice in all this.
Click the ABP icon, then "Open blocked items". A panel appears at the bottom of the screen with all the items that can be blocked.
Select any item by left clicking it, then right click it and click "Block this item". A filter panel comes up, just click "add filter" and it is done.
Block all items that do not start with the Forum name and all the adverts that make life a misery will be blocked. No more interruptions when browsing by unwanted ads.
OK, the site has to condone these advert sites to plague the life out of us in order to accrue revenue to pay the bills, but it does not mean we have to endure them.
I have killed the lot using the method described above - Good Luck !

This really is the worst site for ads and pop ups. Like you I have blocked them (or at least, my tame geek did it for me!)

Hello Ciggy,
Your comments are perfect, a credit to a super brain, no not kidding Ciggy. I expected a barrage of crap to hit the fan on this one, but I will tell you and everybody else, I have been on dozens of Forums and NEVER had a problem with spurious crap popping up all over the place like Punch and Judy.
This is the only Forum on the entire net where it happens. I have had pop-ups blocking my pages and moving pieces of crap going up and down with a mind of their own, all advertising something that I could not give a monkey`s bum about.
I go on a Forum to enjoy the pleasure and conversation involved, not to see a load of inanimate objects flying around all over the place when I am trying to read something, like some kids video game.
As I said, if this is the only way the Forum has to balance it`s books, by giving members a PITA, well be my guest, BUT ABP, NoScript and RIP prevent this cursed practice from spoiling our enjoyment.
Have a nice day and I love ya. My Rottie Kaiser sends you a kiss - Rotties kisses are a bit sloppy but nice.
Rottie

I want a Rottie hug - please tell the Kaiser to save his kisses for someone else. My parents' puppy likes to give me a full wash anytime I sit down - ears, nose, mouth the lot! I just love Rottie smiley faces. They always look so daft and cuddly.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

Hi Lange, thanks for the comment, no doubt voiced by every user on the web.
All sites have these ads in order to supplement their income and some completely rely on them. That does not mean we users have to tolerate them, I kill them with NoScript, ABP, RIP, Flashkiller and so on.
Never have I had ads popping up in the middle of Forum pages or obscuring part of the page by rolling up the side repeatedly. This is unacceptable.
I have killed this pestilence by using what I can of NoScript, but mainly by bringing up the ABP blockable items and blocking everything not directly specified as i-love-dogs. It worked !!
The cursed ads are now gone and all I get are those that do not offend. I could block these if I wished, but they do no harm.
This problem is not uncommon on the web, other users have complained and the best solution is to use ABP as an add-on. I use Firefox, but ABP must suite other browsers.

I use Chrome - no idea what the Geek did but it certainly put an end to the pesky things!

Please don`t worry, I know these ads provide a needed income for the Forum and would never suggest you lose any benefits. As I described, we users can kill the ones we do not like quite easily.
The ones that caused this thread were a flash type ad of substantial proportions popping up on the R/H side of every page and constantly moving up and down. The other was a large pop-up in the centre of the page. With both these, I could not read anything obscured by them and could not work within their frames.
Ads that obscure reading or work matter are those that should not be tolerated.
I do not know the identities precisely, they are now in the ABP coffin and I `aint gonna open it up.
Please don`t do anything that is inconvenient to the Forum, old soldiers like me can take care of it, given a good box of tools.
Regards
Rottie

It it's the floating ad's that are the problem. It's been discussed a number of times since I became a member here. Some of us have installed ad blocking in order to view the forum.
About a month ago some new members were talking about the ad's saying they wouldn't be back to the forum if they couldn't stop the ad's.
Here's two I found with search:
For the Admin
D*mn POP-UPS Driving Me Mad!
Thanks.
