If people would cook their meat thouroughly, they wouldn't get sick. The more poultry is processed, the more chance you have of getting salmonella. The best thing to do is not buy ground chicken or turkey or make sure you cook it extra done. I don't know why people insist on getting ground turkey and then try to cook it like hamburger.

You are prob. going to be 'shocked' by this--but I feed my dogs raw ground turkey. Dogs that are healthy can handle salmonella if need be. To me- (and I don't eat ground turkey--hate it's consistency--tried it once in chili and still couldn't stand it)--To me the biggest worry is ME handling this raw--A lot more handling to feed the dogs then if I just put it in a pan to cook--I wrap their vitamins in it and I am handling it that way a lot and then their dog dishes have to be cleaned too. Actually gr. turkey is what they had last night and I have no idea if it had salmonella or not as I had taken it out of the original pkge and frozen it in portions days or a few weeks before. Needless to say, last night I washed my hands everytime I came in contact with it--which was a lot! My dogs have been eating ground turkey close to once a week for over 11 years.

Wash your hands afterward with antibacterial soap. Dogs do have better tolerance of salmonella than humans do.

Yeh! I am washing my hands all the time--even after everytime I open the refrigerator door! My dogs have never gotten sick from raw meat and I don't think I have yet from handling it! Lol, sometimes my fingers are wrinkly from all the washing though.

Start wearing rubber gloves to handle your dog's meat.

When I see Mr. Buddylee as scavenger and what he picks up on the street, I am amazed that he has very few sick days. Dog's tolerance to germs, parasites, bacteria, etc. is incredible!
