Default In Memory Of 9/11

Well here we are folks. The 10th anniversary of 9/11. I know we all remember where we were on that horrific day that not only changed our country forever but the lives of the almost 3,000 families who lost their loved ones on that day. Parents lost children, children lost parents and the list goes on. I turned on the T.V that day right as the second plane was going through the South Tower. I dropped to my knees. A city I was raised in and had grown up enjoying all it had to offer was being destroyed right before my eyes. We must not forget either the bravery of the people on Flight 93. They fought to save their lives and regain control of the plane. Instead they lost their lives and saved the lives of many others. Nor shall we forget the victims of the Pentagon. All there unsuspecting and doing a days work. In particular an officer who found out hours later that his 11yr. old son had been on the plane that crashed into the very building he was working in. I'm sure there are many of us that did not directly loose someone in that tragedy but I can tell you for those of us from N.Y the loss of 343 F.D.N.Y,23 N.Y.P.D and 37 P.A.P.D was very personal. I grew up knowing many of them. The greatest bunch of people you could meet. All lost their lives trying to save victims. So at least for me personally it is a day I will remember with the utmost grief and pain. I would like to ask all of you that just for a moment take the time to remember the victims and their courage as well as the families left behind. We must NEVER FORGET what happened to our country that day or our fellow Americans. Once we forget or become complacent we leave ourselves open to let it happen again. I also ask any members who have a flag to please fly them at half staff for the day and for those who don't remember them in your prayers tonight. This is something that happened to our whole country and should be remembered by us all. I'm sure it has affected us all in some way, how could it not? My hope is that it makes us stronger and care more about our fellow Americans. Our country was forced to change that day, let it be for the better.
9/11
NEVER FORGET

I'd like to hang those people (if you can call them that) that didn't invite the firefighters and police officers that were there on 9/11 to the 10th anniversary. Shame on them. I hope they rot!!!

Do you mean the ones that are in charge of putting the memorials together?

Well if it makes you feel better it's not done by invitation it's really just a given that they'll be there of course everyone involved takes no issue with any of them that emotionally don't think they can be..I know quite a few of the firefighters and police officers that were there and I can promise you there is no other place they would be during the memorial ceremonies. They are an extremely close nit group, quite honestly more family then co-workers and even though NYC had 5 large boroughs and they obviously don't personally know each and every FF or PO when it comes to memorials for those that have been lost they pull together and are extremely supportive of the families..They're an extremely tough group of people and really put emotions that the average person would have a very hard time dealing with to the side when it comes to this kind of thing..

That's one of the things that makes most of us New Yorkers so proud of where we're from..We have the most incredible firefighters there are and they are most definitely New Yorks finest and bravest..

AMEN!! Very nicely said. My husband is military and has been to Bosnia twice and so on. Our first daughter was born while he was there. Every time a soldier is killed it takes a small part of me as I'm sure with every military, firefighter and police officer family.
Again, AMEN

I was born nd raised in NYC and brother-in-law was shot in Iraq during an ambush..By the grace of God he survived and managed to save his Sgt in the process..That being said I think the very least we can do as a country is to keep all of their memories alive, support our military and be the best country we can be regardless of how bad the gov't tries to screw it..9/11 showed what humanity and unity we are capable of as a country and we must never forget!

God Bless your husband dogs rule and please thank him for his service!

God bless those who had to suffer on this horrible day 10 years ago. May God bless them & their families and those who continue to give so much for who we are and what we stand for.

I find it amazing that the fateful day was meant to hurt us and make us cower but served to unite us like no other and build our courage. Today we don't dwell on any of the negative but on those brave people who cared and helped; from the unknowing civilians to those that serve each day for us. So many beautiful stories of courage & love that have come from this tragic day makes me even more proud to be American.

And even the furry guys who we so love...even they too shined bright! Here is just ONE of those stories: GEB Guide Dog Salty and Omar Rivera at WTC on 9/11 - YouTube There are countless countless more of men & women, and our wonderful furry companions...

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

You know as a Bronx girl this day always gets me in a mix of emotions..From the utter grief and sadness of what happened to my city and the people in it to the complete outrage I feel for not only those who did it but those who allowed it..

However the one bright start in all this is the unity it brought not just to my city and my fellow New Yorkers but to the country as a whole..This tragedy has shown us that when something so horrific happens here that we're able to put our differences aside and unite and stand together..

For that reason it is so important that we never forget the people and the sacrifices of that day and we keep that memory alive..It is also important that we not forget that 9/11 isn't over as our military are still not home as they continue to fight this war...May God Bless them all and return them safely to their families!!

It wasn't just America, it was the whole of the world that changed that day. I turned on the tv for my children to watch the kids programmes when they came in from school that afternoon - around 9.00 a.m. in New York, 3.00 p.m. here in the UK.

We watched it unfold and the terror was palpable here on the other side of the world. My oldest son came in from school later than the younger ones. He was aware that something had happened but no one knew quite what it was. The computers in the school library were down so they couldn't find out what was going on until he came home from school.

To start with for me the sheer numbers dead were incomprehensible - it was the equivalent of our town being wiped off the face of the earth. But as we all talked about it (people talked of little else) the human scale of the tragedy became much clearer. For each one who died for their loved ones the world stopped.

We all cried with you and prayed for you.

I remember our government announced a 2 minutes silence on the Friday morning. I was shopping in town and the whole shop stood still. The traffic stopped outside, the lights dimmed and it seemed that the whole country was standing with you.

I remember seeing it on television at work. I was outside because the day was so beautiful and it was shame to waste it sitting inside when I could be outside getting fresh air before work. Someone told us that someone had hijacked a plane and ran it into the World trade Center. Most of us thought it was a joke. We went to the break area and watched all the rest of it after that. My work didn't know what to do with us, but an hour after the Trade Center fell, they sent us home. One lady that worked with us had to leave anyway. Her husband was a firefighter the had gotten called to go to New York. She had to go home because she was worried she'd never see him again.

I was living in FL and it had only been 4 months since my late husband who was also from NYC had been killed..A co-worker of mine had called and told me but she had said it was the Sears Tower in Chicago..I flipped on the T.V right when the 2nd plane hit..I just fell to my knees and my first thought was how devastated my husband would have been..Especially having been born in Manhattan..His brother worked at WTC 1 and my step-son went to MIT not far from the sight. I frantically called my MIL for almost 2hr.s before I got through and by the grace of God my BIL called in sick that day and my step-son decided to play hookie!!..All I could think of was how blessed we were to have not lost them especially having tragically lost my husband just 4 months prior..However it seemed the horror of what happened that day had only compounded his death.

I like the first pic. It looks like the Statue of Liberty is saluting where the towers stood.

People all over the world watched the events unfold on that tragic day. I believe that the world cried with America that day and in the days following as the bodies of so many innocent people were recovered.
