They have found and killed all of the animals except one (the monkey) and they believe it got eaten by another animal shortly after they all got let out. They say it's the the most wild exotic animals ever turned loose in the history of the US.

I bet it is! I can't imagine thinking I need to be on the look out for tigers, lions, bears, OH MY! Seriously that's crazy stuff there. Glad no one from the public was hurt! Sorry for the animals tho

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

I was wondering when someone was going to use the "lions, tigers and bears OH MY" line.
Thanks Lange.
In the TV coverage that I saw, the reporter said it as well, but you could see a faint smirk on his face as he tried to contol the smile after saying it.
But it is terrible that all those animals ended up like that, and for what.

It would have been best if that guy would have turned all of animals over to a wildlife reserve before ending his miserable life. Then they wouldn't have had to shoot all of those animals.

You have to wonder whatever possessed the guy to release all of those animals before he topped himself. If he'd have just made a call to the authorities, those precious creatures would be alive and in safe hands now. What on earth was he doing with all those exotic animals to begin with?

I was wondering the same. He had just recently been released from prison for animal abuse. How did he acquire that many exotic animals that quickly? Where did he get the money for them? It was obvious that he wasn't rich or anything.

12 states do not have any regulation on keeping or owning exotic animals, Ohio was one of them. These types of animals just dont belong out in your nextdoor neighbors yard or farm. I dont care who they are or how much money they have. You can never tame the wild, and nor should you want to. So I hope they start to crack down on these people and the neighbors start turnning these crazy people in.

At Ryan's brother's house, there is an enclosure where the previous owners kept cougars and lions. There is even one closet inside the house that they used to keep baby cougars and the walls inside the closet are shredded. Ryan's brother doesn't use it for anything because he can't get the urine smell out of it. He plans to put drywall over the opening sometime really soon. In order to get the urine smell out, he would have to tear up the floor and possibly replace the soil and whatever else is under there and he doesn't have the money to replace it all, so drywalling over it might be the best economical solution for him. I agree that people shouldn't have any (I'm not going to say exotic) animal that should be left in the wild. While Ohio does not have exotic animal laws, the city of Marion, in Ohio, does. We can't have any "exotic" animal within city limits. Want to hear what they consider "exotic"? Ferrets, hedgehogs, snakes, tarantulas (I had to find homes for my tarantulas or be fined). You wouldn't believe the ridiculous things on the list. But at the pet stores here, they sell skunks, jerboas, and other things that are perfectly legal to own inside city limits. I am still aghast that a ferret would be illegal while a skunk is legal.
Another thing, from a different perspective...people might want to reconsider what laws they want passed. One law meant to do good can open a floodgate to pass laws that will eventually strip us of every right we have. There is a state (can't remember which one, California maybe???) that says that any animal in or near your house is a pet and should treated as such. Then they went in and took this farmer's cows and horses because they were housed close to his house. (Why someone would think a farm is the same as hoarding cattle is beyond me.) He was charged with hoarding animals, even though it was a farm, just because of some law that was meant to protect house pets. He lost his whole farm over it. While some people who make these laws have good intentions, there are always people (*cough PETA cough*) out there looking for ways to abuse the law. So before you vote on a law that sounds fabulous for animals, think of it from the other perspective.

It is illegal to own wild and endangered animals here in Alberta (except under permit). As well as exotics like the big cats... and rats LOL Alberta is Rat-free and part of keeping it that way is to prevent pet rats as well.
Tarantulas, Ferrets, hedgehogs and snakes are perfectly legal... mostly because, if set free, they wont survive the winter. However, there are several species of Tortoise and turtle that are prohibited.

Thats just it people decied that they dont want that snake because it got too big, or that aligator, so they drop it of in some vacant lot or lake. Someone then is bound to come across it. Nothing good can come out of keeping these type of pets, because not everyone cares and is able to take care of them once they are full grown and the animals life span. Some of these animals can live for a long time. I talked to guy on the street while I was doing my flowers, He had a huge Parrot on his bike handle bars, I asked him how long could this bird live. He told me 75 yrs, now this guy had to be in his 50s, who is going to take care of his bird onces hes gone? Just a thought.
I did see the news that this guy that had all these animals in Ohio, I think he had 35 cats,. The zoo there in Ohio said they have 7. and it takes 17000.00 to feed just one for a year. What, how in the heck did this guy feed these 35 cats and all the other animals and keep up with all the other $$$. I dont think he did, those poor animals.
