...upset! She is a rescue dog and I took her in, and now Im? going to have to pay fortune But I want to help her. Has anyone had this happen to their dog that could tell me more about it, the surgery and recovery and how it went? Thanks

i have a chihuahua that has two inigual(sp) hernias. one on each side if the inside of her back legs. the vet said as long as i am not breeding her an they get no worse that she is fine with them. they poke out sometimes when she barks a lot but they go back when she calms down. i dont know what kind or how bad yours are but good luck!

My pekingese had a hernia. The vet took it off when he neutered him. The recovery time was like 2 weeks about. He had the Elizabethian collar on to keep him from licking (the big white funnel collar). Its not that expensive either. My vet didnt charge any extra on top of the neutering but I guess it depends on where you go. Is your puppy spayed/neutered? If not the vet will do it when you get him/her neutered/spayed. If your puppy is, and they remove it, it shouldnt cost that much (100 tops) since its minor surgery.If you don't want to spend that much, I suggest calling around vet offices to see how much they charge for the spay/neuter and removal of hernia's .. or just the removal of the hernia's if he/she is already neutered/spayed.Good luck!& kudo's for rescuing a life :]
