Half of the dogs I have owned, have been from shelters, and the other half have been dogs people have asked me to take cause they couldnt keep/handle them anymore. What exactly are you doing? could I get some info? are you taking the dogs, to be your own, fostering, or placing somwhere else? How many dogs?? How old are they? what breeds??

What you are doing is an amazing thing; You are there helping them live, and that is truly commendable. Something you could do to take some of the weight off yourself is to make flyers and put them up around town, let people know what is going on and what they can do to help! KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING, you are a beautiful soul...

well, i just rescue them for myself. i dont know of anywhere to bring all the other ones but our local vet takes a LOT of them if they are unwanted. i dont know what they do with them tho, but at least they are saving them for the time being.i personally have adopted 3 from the local shelter. one hadnt even made it inside yet, the owners had 3 dogs they were bringing in as we were walking out, and i just took one with us. she never even had to see the inside of the cages.

I think what you are doing is great....i hate to see any animal put down..I have gotten many dog and cats at the pound...I can remember 1 that i will never forget ( Freckles_ and Australian Shepard Mix...She was the smartest dog..She gave her life for my sister who was in the road and she jumped in front of her and was hit by a car...I will never forget her...Still have my cat...lol She rules the roost...I think more people need to look into getting their pets and the rescue league, or Humane Society...They are treated, wormed, have all their shots, and usually are spayed or neutered...The best way...Don't always go for the " pure breds" because the joy that a mutt brings in your life is so unbelievable. Keep up the good work!!!

I rescue two of my rottweilers! Ruffus had only two days to go and we brought him home! he is a sweetheart and got along with my two terries at that time. When the terries passed away he was depress! yes animals could also get depress. So I start looking around and finally on my birthday! I found Twinkie! a six month rottweiler, she came home with me and she is such a good puppy! she gets along good with the kids! cats! (I have 3) and both of them turn out to be good watch dogs. If one day my two dogs passed away! the next will be coming from the animal shelter!!

The dogs that I have adopted have just seemed to find their way to my door. Over the years I have picked up (1) a pure blood Irish Setter, (2) a pure blood beagle and a pure blood English Cocker Spaniel (someone dumped them as a pair), (3) a pure blood Pekinese, (4) a yellow lab mix, (5) a border collie mix (someone had shot this one and put one of his eyes out), (6) a pure blood long haired daschound (now my lap dog). Of all the dogs only the three poodles were purchased.

Too bad the world doesn't have more people like you. It would be a much better place. You can't save them all, so be satisfied with the ones you have made a better life for. Your question made my day. Keep up the great work!

i worked for animal control and you will never solve this problem. im sorry to say but you need to educate the public so they wont have to e/u anymore. so many dogs come in everyday and so many more get e/u'ed everyday. if you try and do this alone you will only end up as a hoarder all of your animals will end up sick and have mental problems. there is a reason that these animals are being put down. encourage people to spay and neuter and adopt from shelters thats all you can do...im sorry

I got both my dogs and one cat from the Orlando Animal Shelter. My dog, Dina, was found abandoned on the street. She's and APBT... we have little information about her background, but we do know that she came from a place where she would've eventually been put to fight (she was just 2 months when we adopted her). So that's good we saved her... and my other dog, Duke, is a mix. We don't know much about him either. The officers just said he was found roaming the street too. So, yeah... It's always good to save lives.

I have 2 Siberian Huskies. One we got as a stray. She wandered up to the shop where my husband was working and nobody wanted her. He brought her home and we put an ad in the paper; we were sure somebody would call to claim her, but nobody did. We decided to keep her ourselves. Our other husky we adopted from our local animal shelter. They are two of the best dogs I have ever had. Someday we would like to have the room and the facilities to have husky rescue site.
