Our dog has got wounds on her front upper legs,
she has just been rescued, what could they be? Angel has been in rescue kennels for 4 weeks, and has been healthy for her 5 years. Please advise us. We have had her for 5 days. Angel eats well, plays with our cat with no problems, and goes on 5 mile walks. She keeps licking it, it bleeds and weeps. What can we do to help her get the wound better? Are there any ointments to help her?Thank you for your answers.

Bless you for rescuing her. There is no telling what this dog went through before he got you.A Vet may be able to speculate. Is there a way you can ask the ones you rescued him from?

I would use tea tree ointment or spray. It is a good disinfectant and seems to promote healing. Or One could use Aloe Vera gel

Flea bite allergy maybe? If a dog has fleas it's almost certainly got them from a cat, apparently. You'll need to treat the fleas with proper medication, preferably from a vet as it'll be the correct strength and dosage, because until they're gone your dog will continue to get bitten and infected.Well done you for rescuing a dog and giving it a home.Just an extra thought, maybe the cat is scratching her when they play?

You may want to start with the vet just to make sure that there is no infection. If there is an infection the vet can supply you with the appropriate applications to help it heal. If this is caused by salt on the roads or a rough few months or ill-treatment by a previous owner then you can try paw balm (there are a number of good products at your pet store.) If it is something that persists or she licks the balm off of her feet before it has a chance to work, try putting a pair of doggie boots on her. It's surprising but when you cover the sore feet, often the dogs will leave them alone.

Most ointment will just be licked off by Angel. What you want to do is keep Angel extra healthy so that her licking (which has proven healing qualities) heals the wounds. Keep her well fed and ''slip'' her doggy vitamins. Also depending on her size, some St. Josephs Aspirin (for children) will help relieve any itching or pain she may be feeling. See if she will let you clean the wounds with hydrogen peroxide as well. Dog kennels are nasty as far as germs go. Good luck, and I wish Angel a speedy recovery!

Have you had a vet check her over and do you know if her shots are up to date? Seeping wounds might need to be treated with antibiotics.

Take your dog to a vet. I don't care what the animal rescue league said about the dog being healthy and how long she was in the rescue league. They will say anything to get a person to take a dog so they don't have to put it down.Take the dog to a vet and get it checked by a real vet. The rescue leagues uses vets that volunteer and just push animals through the system and pass the problem on to the new owner. I am glad you cared enough to give the dog a new home but don't trust what the rescue league said.

You should have her checked over by a vet. They will give her a full examination. Take her asap.
