Smile Stressed out seeing so many dogs on the roads...

I often have to drive through small, rural towns and too often see dogs on the side of the road or on the road. I never know if they are just farm dogs that roam free and will hopefully make their way back home, or if they've been dumped there. Sometimes I pull over and try to at least see if they have a collar and tag so that I can contact their home. Most of the time they don't, or they won't come close enough to me so that I can see. I always feel so conflicted on what to do. I've only taken one home with me, and I knew she wanted/needed help because she came right up to me and she was covered in ticks and starving... this was on an Interstate. I kept her for 3 months and finally found her a home. I was happy that I helped her become healthy and find a forever home, but it was emotionally draining for me. Lately I have anxiety about driving places because of the fear of seeing them on the road, and going through the stress of trying to help and not being able to... or just keep driving and think/worry about them the rest of the day. Does anyone else experience this???
