Default Saved a dog from Nicaragua but cannot keep him; Help ?

I have been volunteering here in Nicaragua for some time now and saw how awful the situation is here with dogs and how there are hundreds of them living and/ or dying on the streets and how people mistreat them, I wished I could help but short of feeding them did not know how, until I saw this precious puppy of about 6 weeks just lying on the side on the road and rescued him and have raised him for the last 5 months now. He is the light of my life and love him dearly despite his playfully aggressive ways but I return to the states in January to go back to school, will live in dorm and cannot keep him.. I refuse to put him back on the streets but do not know what to do, he is loving and sweet and deserves a good home.. Any ideas would be so great and thank you.

BostonRob, You are a very Good Person with lot's of Love to Give!

Is it impossible to get a home for your pup localy?
Getting it into the US, if it can be done, you might get one of your friends to keep it for you while you're at school?

To my understanding, it is quite the procedure to import an animal from another country into the United States. You must have the proper paper work on the animal with a licensed veterinarian verifying clean bill of health. I believe once that is established, they are required to be in quarantine for a period of time..

On the other hand.

You could start looking for a forever him now for him before you depart. Start putting up ads and interviewing potential owners. See how he reacts to different people and which of them he connects with. Check any available shelters or animal control for possible foster homes in your area.

Good luck.
