I recently visited a new resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico. We were greeted on the beach each morning by a family of amazing dogs...they were abandoned.
We returned home and then heard from fellow travellers that the dogs were being mistreated by the hotel we stayed at...they even hired Terminix to try to get rid of the dogs.
The next day we found out that the dogs had been attacked by a porcupine and the dogs were suffering with quills in their faces. They couldn't eat or drink. The resort was doing nothing.
A group of travellers got together and mobilized a team of people in the area to attempt to capture and treat the dogs. I want to say thank you to Peanut Pet Shelter in Playa del Carmen who has been amazing with this rescue.
They have over 70 dogs in their shelter and they rescue the abandoned street dogs in the Riviera Maya area. They are amazing people.
If you are planning a trip to Cancun/Riviera Maya I highly suggest visiting the Peanut Pet Shelter. Or make a donation of supplies or financial support on their website.
They have many dogs for adoption so if you are considering an adopted rescue dog...please consider brining one home from your next vacation.
They are amazing dogs.
