Default Where to adopt a dog; request a service animal, or to train one for service

Just posted this info in another section but feel this is a good place to put this info too!---------->

To adopt a pet, contact:
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Go to www.ASPCA.org and look in their Find a Shelter database under "Adoption."

Humane Society of the United State. Go to www.hsus.org and look under the Select a Pet menu.

Good on you for posting this!

I haden't realized until know that there were specific websites where you could search specifically for service dogs and such.

Exclamation Before You Adopt a Shelter Dog--Best Info!!!

This is a very good read even if you aren't considering a shelter dog! I love this site! Very informative and shows many pics of all breeds of dogs too. I'd paste this article here but it is too long. Please check it out! Let me know what you think of this site! Yogi had given this link in a post he did a while back and you know Yogi knows where to find the 'best stuff!'

As I said in your other thread, I really like this site too. I give links to article within it often as you may have noticed.

I would have been very happy with shelter dogs. Unfortunately, I needed small dogs and I wanted them reasonably young and without serious medical conditions. I looked for 6 months. The other dogs were either huge or, surrendered pit bulls. That's why I finally went to a breeder and got my little Jacks.

Great post.

Don't think I can post links yet, but there also breed specific rescues also. A few of my friends have used these rescues when looking for a specific breed they wanted.

Also, with many rescues, they are put into foster homes first. This way they can really get to know the dogs personallity and help them with any issues they have before being adopted out. I have helped in fostering.
