Pitbulls are great loving dogs. They just have been marketed as fighting dogs. I'm deeply saddened that it happened in my country.

Right now, the fight-bred dogs are rumored to be shipped to South Korea. I've been hearing that this disturbing business is thriving over there.

Anybody have any idea how we can market pitbulls back to just being normal loving dogs?

I have an idea. Anyone caught dog fighting should be put in a ring and they should be forced to fight and they should be starved and they should have 50 lb chain hanging off of their neck. They should be kicked and beaten until they feel like the dog that they did this to. And then they should be euthanized because they might be a danger to society. I don't see how that would be unconstitutional considering it was ok for them to do that in the first place.

This lady is doing something about it!

She started the Photobook Projects with a book about Deaf Dogs (Scout and Mouse are the only 2 Canadian dogs in all three books!), It's gotten HUGE! She never expected the overwhelming response, and added a Rescue Dog book, and is now just finishing up her Pit Bull Photobook.


She is trying to change perception of misunderstood dogs, first with the Deaf Dog book, then the Rescued in America book, and now the Pit Bull book.

I agree with the "eye for an eye", "tooth for a tooth" form of punishment.
But in todays "slap on the wrist" society, thats all that will happen. A short jail sentence, (if that) and a fine.
The horrible crimes that are committed towards dogs all the time, just have to be heard, to the point that it can't be over looked anymore!!

This is a two fold problem.

The media is the primary problem. Every dog bite is a "pit bull", there is no research or responsibility. They are going for sensational.

Then we have this attitude/society of fear. The general population is "afraid" of everything and wants the government to "make a law" to "make us safe". When are people going to learn that criminals don't follow the law?

So we get pittiess and staffies (and what ever else people think LOOKS like a Pit) taken away from good responsible owners. So criminals hide their abused, poorly trainer, status symbols until the next sensational media story. Round and round we go.

Personally, we need to get the good stories out there. We have a girl by us who has hounded the local media to do a story on here therapy dog - APBT! It took over a year, but it happened.

Also, getting people to know the difference between a APBT and other breeds. I will correct people at the stores or out at parks when they obviously name a dog the wrong breed - the worst I've ever received was a dirty look. Oh, ouchie :twisted:!

I had Tazzy at our Octoberfest last weekend, and a woman told her kids to be careful of the Pit Bull in the cage (vendors dog was sleeping in a crate). I very nicely walked up next to her and said, "Actually, I think that is an American Bull dog." She looked at me and stated that she didn't know what that was. We both approached the owner, got to talking and the kids petted both my mix and the Bull dog. One person at a time.

I was upset once when I was walking one of my saint bernards uptown on the sidewalk. A policewoman told me that I needed to take my dog home because then people with pittbulls will think they can walk their dogs in town. This was from a police woman. I told her that pittbulls aren't the problem, the owners are. There was a lady next to me carrying a chihuahua in her purse and the police woman didn't say anything to her about taking her dog home. It still pisses me off.

Pittbulls didn't get the way they are on their own. All beings are born innocent. If you want to bash something, bash the people who did this to them.

Luna I couldn't agree with you more...Pitbulls that attack other dogs are victims as well..Victims of the so-called human beings that own them and cause them to turn out that way..In all my years of being a trainer I have never come across a vicious Pitbull and that's probably because their owners obviously raise them the way they should be raised..After all they're bringing them to training classes..I have though come across a large variety of nasty vicious little dogs who's owners only decided or bring them to training class when they got tired of them biting their kids and could no longer handle them!!..However that doesn't mean that I think all small breed dogs are mean or vicious or that they're "born that way" or that it's "bred into them"..They're simply victims of the retards that own them!
