Wow, you seem very nice, and at least the person who did this to the dog has left him in good care (instead of the million other horrible possibilities!) This dog is very lucky to have found you! Now this dog has been highly mistreated by the descriptions you gave.If it was me, i would not trust anybody either, and I'm sure no one would! I would need to trust you, and to be able to tell that you would not hurt me, that you would care for me, love me, and treat me the right way, the way i deserve to be treated! now, this may take time for you to gain his trust, but i think you should start out by feeding him dog food, leave a bowl about 6 yards from your house, then go inside, the next day maby put the bowl 5 1/2 yards away and go down 1/2 yard(yard= 3 feet) every day!soon he will gain your trust, and eventually you will be able to take Him to the vet!! Untill that day comes, to speed up the process, spend as much time as possible just outside, doing your own thing-even lay outside and read- he will become interested in you, and if he comes over, don't strike your hand to pet Him, and don't, jump or startle, you want to just let Him sniff you, and if he seems calm you can genitally pat him, ext! It takes time, Patience, kindness, heart, loyalty, and respect, but I'm confident you have all this, so just follow your heart!good luck-hope this helps ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
