be a mix can you help? This new dog I have is for sure mostly a Black Lab but with his fussy hair I think he is a mix with something. He is 5 months old and stands knee high to me and already weighs over 35 pounds. He has purple spots on his tongue like Chows do. Anybody know what kind of dog he may be mixed with?

It is a good possibility that this dog is a mix of chow and lab, but has the appearance of a lab. I have a mix lab myself, he's 1/2 lab and 1/2 Shepard, but has the appearance of the Shepard, the attitude of the Shepard and the drooling of the lab. But to be absolutely sure, take the animal to a vet, they can run a DNA test on him and give you a more accurate breed.

Just sounds like you already love the dog & are taking good care of him, just love & have fun with him, it don't matter what breed he is Lots of dogs have spots on their tongues, Chows have all blue tongues !!!

Be sure to take it to the vet (Just in case, y'know?) and also put a lost and found ad in your local newspaper. Black labs can get pretty big, without a pedigree there's probably no way to know for certain. My own dog is mostly Husky but I suspect there was a smaller dog involved somewhere along the line.
