What makes stray dogs stray dogs??
im just wondering how they came to be because it seems unfair that "branded" or I mean dogs with breeds always get the attention and love while also these animals (stray dogs) also need those. Usually these are killed and sold as dog meat and also for their fur. =(

I believe a dog is considered stray when he doesnt have an owner, whether from abandonment or from being born that way. To my knowledge, people only "kill" stray dogs because it seems noone will miss it or notice it is gone. While it is sad that this happens, it still does.

When no one takes responsibility for a loose dog or cat, they become strays. It is not limited to mutts either. I have seen pure bred dogs on the loose as well as others simply because they were abandoned by their owners. Makes me SICK!!! Hope this helps!! DOGS RULE!!

Basically strays become strays because they have either run away from homes for whatever reason, they are abandoned by heartless people, they are lost, or simply because they are born to a parent who was of the above.

eventho this is an old thread - I'll still chime in here since its up again
being "stray" has nothing to do with what breed it is. it simply means that it is not on its own property.
if your dog is picked up by AC or taken to the shelter by a citizen - it is a stray - no matter whether it has tags or not - it is a stray. shelters here have a 1/3 population of PB dogs.
sabre - what country are you in? yes, euthanized pets do wind up in dog food in the US, but its a little more complicated.
for thunderphobia - Bachs flower remedy - Rock Rose is excellent, but the dog shouldn't be outside to have the opportunity to run away when storms are coming

I believe that 99% of the so called stray dogs have become that because of human negligence.

This is why people need to research before they decide to adopt a pet. To be sure it's what they really want to do. (Just like having a baby.) Also to spay and nurture so if they do become stray they won't have stray puppies.

Stray are those that doesnt have an owner specially if they are born that way. It sad that people "kill" stray dogs just because noone will miss it or notice it is gone. That's why I always tell my friends to adopt a pet than buy from pet shops.

For me all dogs has breed but those who has good breed are being prioritized all the time...And that's not fair because there is no exact good breed...Its about how you build bonding to your dog...I guess the reason why there are stray dogs because their owners has been abandoned them for some reason or they are being lost accidentally...

Stray Dog v Street Dogs
I travel the world and I fall in love with the dogs where ever I go. As I do a lot of traveling in third world countries. In the these countries I see many street dogs. They are different to stray dogs because they usually live in the community. Depending on the culture they are living in will determine the temperament of the dog.
It is very distressing to see dogs mistreated but in some of these countries they treat the dogs with as much respect as they treat their fellow human beings!
So what is the difference between a Stray Dog and a Street Dog?
Cheers,
Mick (the dog lover)

Add up all the stray dogs killed in your town in a day.
multiply that by how many towns in the country.
THAT'S a LOT of dogs being killed every day.
Every owner who is NOT a professional breeder MUST spay or neuter their dog(s).
If you want your dog to have puppies, are you doing so just for your own selfish enjoyment?
those pups grow up and make more pups .......and so on and so on.
There's way, way toooo many dogs being born every day........and not enough dog lovers to take them all home.
Reduced dog population will also reduce the strays and the strays that are killed every day
