Hi there, all I can say is-- the dog is a stray it doesn't belong to this friend so just go get Fred and take him to the SPCA. Do you think he has a good life as it is? I don't but that's just my opinion. Is the weather going to get colder there? Will he run out in the road and get hurt or maybe even the driver could get hurt swerving to avoid him. These are things you have got to think about. Failing that, I don't know what else to say. Good luck and keep me posted.---Aggy

hi there, im glad fred has you nearby and your friend its better than having no one loking out for him.

i work at local kennels which run a rescue section. i wondered perhaps if you look into your local kennels instead of the spca as they have strict guidelines about dogs. at our centre we never put a dog down unless it is very agressive and even so we try to work on it. we have had very badly abused dogs who have bit the dog warden coming into our kennels and have been successfully rehomed.

food agression can be handled. once the dog is in a settled home and someone tsakes the time to practise this with the dog who now knows he has a home and will be getting fed then fred should become more at ease with food.

let me know how it goes but my advice is to contact a local rescue kennels rather than the spca.

good luck and pawprints and slurps to fred xxx

I may have to find a local animal shelter other than the SPCA. I finally confronted my mom and asked her to help me take him to the SPCA soon. she said she would of course help. My plan was to work up the courage and ask to keep him and if in 2 days of having him he shows and issues than I'd take him to the SPCA. (I was going to argue that I am employed at a vet office and could care for his vet bills and etc etc etc) I wimped out sadly.
Called the SPCA a few minutes ago and they said it would be a $10 "donation" to drop Fred off. I asked about the food aggression thing. The woman never said yes or no. she said along the lines of, "If he is deemed unadoptable then it's a possibility" And I asked, "So there is a chance?" And she said "Possibly."

NOW COME ON. I just wanted a yes or no. I will tell my mom what the SPCA said and maybe bring up an option of seeing how he is with us before we take him now that I know for sure he might be put down...possibly. We had a schnauzer when I was 5 who was aggressive over toys/food. They quickly trained that negative behavior out of her. I know it is possible! It just takes a bit of commitment.
