Default just adopted a stray with ringworm

We just adopted a dog with ringworm. Actually she showed up at our house as a stray. We had her vet checked as she had about 10 round places on her body with no hair. She was also in heat. So, we had her spayed, she is on medication for 14 days orally, we put lamisil on each spot and bathe her twice per week in anti fungal shampoo. Just curious as to whether anyone else has dealt with this. We have an inside border collie and a mane coon cat (also inside). We plan to keep this dog inside as well as she is small. I have been a basket case as far as being concerned about passing it on to my other pets. This dog (Lacy) is in a crate in the garage until her treatments are finished. Just hope she actually is cured when she finishes all meds as we will then introduce her to the rest of the family. If anyone has done this, please let me know. Thanks

Ringworm can be as easy as following through on the medication, but there are also times when it goes on and on and on. Just keep up with the meds and continue seeing your vet until it's cured.

When I got ringworm from a kitten it lasted about three months. The kitten's and my friend's went away after 4-6 weeks, but mine lingered until I quit using the ointment. Not that that's a suggestion! Always speak to your vet before starting or discontinuing any treatment, just saying it can be tricky and a large part of dealing with it can be avoiding frustration.

Make sure the dog gets plenty of attention and exercise and spends most of her day outside of the crate. Ringworm is one thing, but rehabbing a dog with insecurity issues is a whole batch of something else. Just be sure to wear protective gear with the dog. My ringworm meds smelled like oatmeal cream pies, but aside from that, it sucked.

Thanks for the reply. So far, so good. I worried about her getting "separation anxiety" being in the crate so much, but I think she is doing very well and probably needed the down time to recoup from her spaying. We have been giving her lots of exercise so hopefully all is good.

According to the vet, she will be non-contagious upon taking her last pill which is tomorrow. She looks good. All her bald spots are just skin colored.....no redness or sign of ringworm. Really, she may have been about over it when she arrived at our place. From what I understand, it runs it's course without any meds in about 3 to 4 months.

Thanks again for the response and tips
